Strawberry Whiskey Lemonade Cocktail

- 1 1/2 ounces whiskey
- 2 tbsp strawberry shrubs (recipe listed below)
- 2 dashes of aromatic bitters
- 3 ounces lemonade
- wheels of lemon
- halved slices of fresh strawberries
- ice
Add ice to a cocktail shaker.
Pour in 1 1/2 ounces bourbon whiskey, 2 tbsp strawberry shrubs, 2 dashes aromatic bitters, and 3 ounces lemonade.
Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Strain into a serving glass filled with ice (a highball or rocks glass works well).
Garnish with a wheel of sliced lemon and a halved strawberry slice on a cocktail stick.
Serve and enjoy!
Homemade Strawberry Shrubs
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
2 1/2 cups of sliced strawberries
white wine vinegar (see step #5)
1 tablespoon pomegranate syrup
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
Directions:
Into a saucepan over medium-high heat, add 1 1/2 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 1/2 cups of sliced strawberries.
Cook the mixture for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and allow the mixture to steep for five minutes or until cool enough to handle safely.
Place a fine-mesh sieve over a medium-sized bowl. Pour and press the mixture through the sieve to collect the juice. Measure the amount of juice you have.
Add white wine vinegar equal to half the volume of the juice (e.g., if you have 8 ounces of juice, add 4 ounces of white wine vinegar).
Add 1 tablespoon of pomegranate syrup and 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar. Mix thoroughly.
Pour the strawberry shrubs into a Mason-jar-style glass with a screw lid. Use immediately or store in the fridge for up to two weeks. For best freshness, keep refrigerated and tightly sealed.
