Wedding Gum Holder DIY & Wedding Tablescape Idea
Remember in Season One, Episode Nine of “Sex and the City,” The Turtle and the Hare? The ladies four went to a friend’s wedding and were placed at the wrong single’s table. Samantha unfortunately, was placed next to the “Turtle”, whose breath stunk to the high heavens. Basically, the man’s breath suffered from extreme and unflattering halitosis!
“It was your average $100,000 wedding.
Investment bankers and the women who hate them…
classmates from Steiner, Dalton and Brown…
and us. We looked like The Witches of Eastwick.
A wedding this size always has two singles tables.
We were at the other one.
Hello.
Hi. I’m Bernie Turtletaub, friend of the groom.
It was the Turtle. A Manhattan legend known for two things:
good investments and bad breath.”
Later on in this same episode, Samantha runs into the Turtle at a restaurant. They ended up having dinner, but once again Sam is put off by his bad breath. And we all know Samantha Jones holds nothing back, “Honey, no offense, but your breath…
Turtle: I know. It’s these Chinese herbs I’m taking. You know, for longer life.
Sam: Well, with breath like that, you’re gonna live a very long life … alone!”
Maybe you can relate to Sam. Have you ever been to a wedding and the person talking to you at the table has appalling breath? Or maybe the person’s breath in question is you! I’ve been to several weddings over the years, and I always try to remember to have gum or mints in my purse. But, I’m human, and sometimes I forget to grab a pack of gum. Or, what if the culprit is the food or the open bar. Eating and drinking at social events can be both good and bad thing. Because even if the refreshments and appetizers are delicious it doesn’t mean they’re not going to make a mess of your breath. It is times like this you totally wish you had a pack of something extra (pun so intended) and refreshing to put in your mouth. Even if you’re not eating or drinking eventually your breath with get stall or sour. And if you are anything like me I would rather not talk to anyone with a stale or sour mouth. But that’s just me. I’m that person who’ll offer you gum quick, fast and in a hurry!
We’re entering into the height of the 2016 Wedding season, and while I am not a bride or a wedding planner, I do have a wedding party favor suggestion which just might save the day, or at least save a few sensitive noses. Having cute party favors, candy buffets, etc., are all fine and dandy ideas to have at any wedding. But, how about having packs of refreshing breath saving gum on the table? I’m going to show you how to make a beautiful, inexpensive and easy to put together Wedding Gum Holder. Talk about the perfect idea that keeps on giving. You are so welcome.
First, I have to tell you about the latest packs of gum hitting the shelves at a Target store near you. Extra® has a new 35-stick pack of gum and it is not only mega-awesome, but it also uses recycled packaging. These babies are big enough to spread the love around by splitting the pack up. You can leave a few sticks in your car, add a couple to your purse, and a sufficient amount to share with “The Turtle” who happens to be sitting right next to you at your table! YIKES! The Extra® 35-stick pack comes in two yummy varieties: Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice®. The idea behind the new 35-stick pack of gum is to “Give Extra, Get Extra”. I LOVE it!
Here’s how we are using the new 35-stick pack of gum as a wedding party favor. With 35 sticks, there will be enough for everyone at your table, and a few extra pieces to stick into your purse or pocket for any breath 9-1-1 emergencies that may come your way.
Years ago, we had to make everything by hand. But you noticed how much more accessible DIY materials have become? Now, crafts are easier to make with all of the supplies and amazing DIY ideas to be found in your local craft store. I have a friend who creates candy holders for parties and weddings. I approached her about teaming up and making gum holders for weddings. With just a few simple supplies, you too can do this!
Stop by your local craft store and grab:
- 12×12 Cardstock paper (the amount will vary based on how many gum holders you need to make). You should be able to make 3 gum holders per paper
- White Tulle
- Coral (or blue) Ribbon & Salmon (or pink) Ribbon
- Pearls (they sell these individually or in small sprays, 4 per bag)
- Coral and Pink Craft It Paper Roses (you can make these by hand by following the tutorial posted here, OR take the easy route by purchasing them at your local craft store).
Directions:
It was easier to place a pack of gum inside of the cardstock paper and then cut around it. I am not your typical DIY person. I like to guess and estimate. The first sample is always the trial and error. You figure out what works, and what doesn’t work then take it from there. Once you measure (quesstimate) the paper dimensions, you can now glue (or hot glue) or tape the cardstock around the paper.
Cut out pieces of ribbon and tie them into a pretty bow. Add a few delicate pieces of white tulle and luminescent pearls for a dramatic and elegant look. Hot glue those to the cardstock. Hot glue the pink paper or blue rose in the middle of the bow. You can find pre-cut signs with the words “Thank you” or use your silhouette to customize it to say, “Worthey 2016 Wedding” or something similar.
And that’s it. A fancy way to dress up your gum. And trust me, your guests will LOVE that you thought of this much needed wedding party favor. {Be sure to check for the tutorial on how to make Burlap Place Setting runners and the full Wedding Tablescape idea!}
You can easily find the new Extra® 35-stick pack at your local Target store in the checkout lane.
You can learn more about this new 35-stick pack by visiting Extra®’s website for more information! You can also find more “Give Extra, Get Extra” ideas to help you find ways to share the love on the new pack of Extra® 35-stick pack.
And, if you don’t have a wedding coming up, these ideas will work for a birthday party, tea party, ladies luncheon and more! I am in LOVE with these colors, and tickled pink on how everything came together. Go me!
