Virtual Graduation Ideas – Ways To Celebrate Your Grad
Graduation. It’s what high school and college seniors look forward to at the end of a long school year. Kindergartners are eager to wear their school-made caps and wave to their parents as they walk across the stage. Eighth graders are ready to say goodbye to middle school and embrace the challenges of high school.
But the last few months have been challenging for our country. We’ve gone from the cancellation of school to online learning. Graduations are up in the air, and students are disappointed about not spending these final months with their respective classmates. Parents are scrambling to figure out how to celebrate their child’s accomplishments and adhere to social distancing.
Growing up, celebrations were always a big deal in our house. My mom would go all out for graduations, birthdays, and accomplishments. When I graduated from high school, my mom (also a teacher at the same high school) handed me my diploma. She instilled in me that every moment, regardless of how big or small, should be celebrated.
With our youngest leaving 8th grade and heading on to high school, we were looking forward to our last hurrah of middle school graduation. We were looking forward to having an end-of-the-school-year-graduating-from-eighth-grade party. As his mom, I want to fix this, but I can’t. It’s frustrating to see your child upset about not spending these last few months with his best friends. Leaving middle school and transitioning to high school is a big deal for Zayd’n. It’s also a little scary going from ruling the school to becoming a freshman among thousands of kids.
Virtual Graduation Ideas
With so much uncertainty of planning parties, postponing graduations, and figuring out how to safely celebrate your grad, I’m sharing some ideas on creating a virtual graduation celebration for your child. These tips are great for all types of graduates- middle school, high school, and college.
As a parent, we want to celebrate our child’s accomplishments. Graduating from high school or college is a big deal. Transitioning from middle school to high school is a big deal for kids. We love entertaining and celebrating, and here are some ways you can celebrate safely.
This gorgeous banner was printed at Walmart Photo with their same day service.
Walmart is here to help you plan your graduation celebration. From food, decorations, and accessories, they even have Walmart Photo to help you create banners, print photos, create awesome boards, and more!
Walmart Photo offers same day service on many of its products. I was able to sit down in the morning and create the invites, banner, board, and prints I needed for Zayd’n’s virtual graduation party. It was available to pick up later the same day. So even if you are planning a last-minute event, Walmart Photo can come to your rescue.

Do keep in mind if you want certain styles, print finishes, and product dimensions, those may take a few additional days. After placing my order, I received an email as well as a text message with my confirmation. Later on that day, I received a text and email that my order was ready for pick-up.
Planning a Virtual Graduation Party
Pick a date and time for virtual graduation. Pick a time when you know most people will be available. The earlier you set the date gives people time to place this important event in their schedule.
Create invitations and send them out to family, friends, teachers, and your child’s friends. Yes, you should still make a big deal about invitations. You can create a digital invite, but there is something personable about receiving an invitation in the mail.
How to set-up a virtual graduation party. There are a few ways you can do this. You can use online platforms like Zoom to create a digital event for everyone to join in celebrating your child, virtually. You can also use social media platforms to go “live” and have people join in and give well wishes to the grad.
Graduation Decor. Set up a space to celebrate your child. Walmart carries a variety of graduation decorations. You really can get everything at one store.
Bring the memories and accomplishments. Find old photos, school certificates, and other memorable moments to create a memory lane of your child’s achievements. You can also use Walmart Photo to create board prints of your child and their friends. I was able to find photos of Zayd’n with his closest friends and created this board (shown above). I was pleased with how this board print turned out.
For same-day service, the board was clear, and you would have thought I spent a ton of money to have this created. This is why I loved using Walmart Photo to help me create this special day for my son. Everything was affordable and of excellent quality.
Their website is user-friendly and easy to create everything I needed for this virtual party.
They also have templates you can use if you don’t have time or don’t want to come up with a design. I just dropped the photos in the dedicated spots, reviewed it, and placed my order.
Order food and a graduation cake. If you don’t want to cook, you can use Walmart’s Deli service to order food, as well as the bakery to order a cake, cupcakes, or cookies.
Create a graduation board for your grad. I decided to put together a graduation party board with Zayd ‘n’s favorite snacks and candy.
I wanted to make this day feel extra special by adding his favorite candy, chocolate and added graduation cookies.
I also used Walmart Photo and ordered 4×6 and 5×7 prints and added them to our graduation party set-up. I found the graduation picture holder as well as the photo frames at Walmart.
Celebrate with a cap and gown. For those high school seniors and college grads, they earned those caps and gowns. Caps and gowns were ordered months in advance, so get some wear out of them.
Have your child put it on and take photos of them. You can use Walmart Photo same-day service to print those photos. And if you want graduation announcements made with your child in their cap and gown, Walmart Photo same-day service can take care of this task for you!
We placed this banner in our yard, so our neighbors can celebrate with us.
Let the world celebrate with you. I used Walmart Photo same-day service to have this 2×8 photo banner created. The paper and the photos turned out great, and I was impressed with the quality. I honestly was not sure what to expect from same-day service printing, but Walmart Photo not only delivered on time but with great quality photos and products. When it’s time to celebrate the twins next spring for their senior year, I will be returning to Walmart Photo for help.
Plan a graduation parade. We’ve seen the birthday parades, but plan one for your graduate. Set up a time when friends, family, neighbors, and even teachers can drive by with signs and congratulate the grad from a safe distance.
If you do plan to do a graduation parade, having a banner like the one we made in your yard would be the perfect way to use it! This was Zayd’n’s favorite part of his virtual graduation party. Being able to see some of his friends drive by with banners and fun treats, put a huge smile on his face. He’s a super social kid, so being able to see his friends in person from a safe distance made his day!
Your graduate deserves to be celebrated. After the few months we have all gone through as a family and country, we need to celebrate those special moments and not take them for granted. Walmart Photo same-day services allowed me to put this virtual celebration together with little effort. I was able to find other related grad items at Walmart, making my job super easy.
Regardless of the age of your graduate, celebrate their special day- their accomplishments. They earned it! While we may not have had our way of commemorating Zayd’n’s eighth-grade transition, I’m glad we were able to find a way to celebrate Zayd’n and let him know we are so proud of him.
Let Walmart Photo take some of the load off your list by ordering prints, banners, and other photos you may need to help you celebrate your grad. Head over to Walmart Photo to check out all the products you can order with their same-day service.
