We’re ready to enjoy all things summer. But before we head out, here are 9 summer safety tips to keep you safe and healthy this summer. This post is sponsored by Florida Orange Juice; however, all opinions are my own.
Summer’s here! And after the last year of spending so much time at home, we’re all ready to get out and spend more time outdoors. Whether you’re headed to the beach, going hiking, biking, or just hanging out in your backyard, there are some things you should keep in mind when it comes to summer safety. We’ve taken so many precautions over the past year, but our health and wellness should always come first, no matter the season.
Summer Safety Essentials
In our partnership with Florida Orange Juice, we’re sharing essential tips to enjoy summer safely.
Stay hydrated. I like to keep a water bottle in my bag to stay hydrated and refreshed. However, did you know Florida Orange Juice can also help keep you hydrated and with additional benefits? 100% orange juice is naturally comprised of 90% water, but it also supports hydration because it contains several electrolytes including potassium, calcium (in fortified juices), and a small amount of magnesium.
Sunscreen. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t always abide by this safety rule. For years I didn’t think I needed to wear sunscreen. However, as I get older and realize the importance of taking care of my body, inside and out, I’m adding sunscreen to my summer bag.
Sunglasses. Just as you want to protect your skin, protect your eyes.
Spray bottle. This could be optional for you, but I like to have a spray bottle with cool water in my bag. When I get hot, especially if I’m headed to the beach or theme parks, using a spray bottle for misting is just smart.
Hand sanitizer. We may have grown accustomed to using a lot of hand sanitizer this past year, but it’s something I’ve always kept in my bag. And because I’m a mom, I keep wipes in my bag and the car. They’ve come in handy quite a few times for spills, wiping down tables, etc.
Bug spray. Spending time outdoors means being prepared to deal with bugs. Protecting your health means applying bug spray to keep away ticks, mosquitos, etc. And with the rise of different viruses related to mosquito bites, it’s worth buying a few bottles to have on hand this summer.
First-aid kit. If I’ve learned anything as a mom is to be prepared for anything. I keep a travel-sized first-aid kit in my summer bag for those just-in-case moments.
Comfort. This may not seem like an apparent safety essential but dressing comfortably and wearing a good pair of shoes can make a huge difference. Having the right pair of shoes and clothing for your specific activity can make or break how well you enjoy yourself—having the wrong pair of shoes on while hiking could lead to blisters or feeling miserable the entire trip.
Don’t forget your hat. When I’m planning a day outdoors, I have to take a hat to help keep the sun off my head. And it also keeps me somewhat cool.
We love pairing Florida Orange Juice with our breakfast, brunch, or with a snack or back-to-school lunch, but it’s such a versatile drink to enjoy on its own. Staying hydrated during those hot days of summer is essential.
We’re also talking to our boys about the importance of summer safety tips, especially staying hydrated. Our youngest goes out and plays basketball every day, and the older kids work out 4-5 times per week.
They love Florida Orange Juice, and we go through our fair share. But if that’s what it takes to ensure they are getting their nutrients (as well as taking their daily multivitamins) and staying hydrated, then that’s what it takes.
This summer, pair your regular intake of water with Florida Orange Juice. You’ll also be giving your body those important nutrients like vitamin C, folate, and thiamin.
Our family is ready to get out and travel. We’re ready to explore National Parks, hike, kayak, and spend time together with our loved ones.
