Red, White & Blue Outdoor Party Theme
We just came off of Memorial Day weekend, with summer just around the corner. This weekend we laid my Dad to rest. It was a bittersweet time.
It was sad to have him leave us, but knowing he was reunited with my Mom was a good feeling.
My Dad and my hubby are both Veterans. I am thankful for their service to our country, and to every woman and man who served and died for our freedom.
Here at the Worthey house, we love to entertain. Family and friends who know us well, know they will always find food at our home. Many times people will call the hubs up and ask, “D, what you got over there to eat?” We are known for many things, but these two stand out above the rest: feeding our guests well and making sure they have a very good time. I don’t want to title myself “the best hostess”, but we both do a great job of making sure our guests are comfortable and entertained, and leave with a full stomach.
As we approach the peak of summer entertainment and the Fourth of July, I’m going to share a few ways you can host a Red, White & Blue Party in your backyard.
First, you will need all things Red, White & Blue.
This will be an easy task to complete. You can find patriotic decorations at ANY store (Target, Walmart, Meijer, Amazon, Pier 1, Home Goods, World Market, Kohl’s, Dollar Stores, etc., ). My personal favorite stores to shop at for decor and party ideas are Home Goods and World Market.
Usually, before I start shopping for decorations, I shop at home. I love to shop after the season and pick up a ton of items at 80-90% off.
For this particular tablescape, I picked up the tablecloth and napkins from Home Goods.
When it comes to summer entertainment, you don’t need to get fancy.
Especially if people are drinking and eating messy food, such as ribs; that’s the last mess you want on your Grandmother’s special white linen tablecloth.
After laying down the tablecloth, I set the table for four people.
Feel free to set it for the number of people coming to your shin-dig.
If you would rather save money and time, use paper plates or melamine and cutlery.
Since I was setting the table for a small party, I used red chargers and patriotic plates I picked up on clearance from Kohl’s.
I added glass milk bottles, patriotic hats, and a pinwheel filled with candy at each table setting.
I also added red, white, and blue tortilla chips picked up from World Market, as well as patriotic caramel popcorn.
I had a beautiful flower spray given to me by my friend, so I decided to recycle it and use it for this tablescape.
It was a nice touch! I found ice cream bowls at Home Goods this weekend, and those worked out perfectly since we had Red, White & Blue Ice Cream Brownie Parfaits.
Since Derrick is known for putting together creative and awesome cocktails, we needed a bar area.
A few years ago I put together a patio bar made out of wood pallets. Well, the wood pallet bar had run its course.
World Market was having a one-day sale on potting benches.
In the advertisement, they suggested turning your potting bench into a bar. Wow, great idea!!!
We decided to buy two of them, and after putting them together, they work perfectly in our space!
After adding lights, a few patriotic lanterns, decorations, snacks, alcohol, RESQWATER, and ice, our bar/serving area is ready to go.
Inside the potting bench-turned patio bar is a tub.
This is a great area to use as an ice bucket/cooler. We added ice and a few RESQWATER bottles.
I also created a fun candy bar. Not only do the kids love them, but adults as well.
While you’re talking or waiting for the food, you can have a few snacks to munch on.
Plus, they work well for decorations too!
I added a mix of Skittles, gumballs, Twizzlers, M&M’s, gummy bears, cupcakes, patriotic popcorn, and Rice Krispie treats.
We have the table set, snacks in place, drinks on deck, and now we just need some food.
Of course, grilling is always on the menu.

And that’s a wrap! Your summer party doesn’t have to have a ton of frills, but just good thrills (food).
Don’t forget to hook your iPhone (or sound system) up to some speakers to add some music to your outdoor party.
