You Only Have One Heart- Ways To Protect It!
Motivated by the American Heart Association, I’m sharing more tips on protecting your health. Since my Mom passed in 2014, I have intentionally started to focus on my health. And since my Mom, her Mom, her Aunt’s, etc. all passed from heart attacks; I’m concerned more than ever about my health.
I recently shared tips on ways you can protect your heart, but today I’m going to give you more ways to protect your overall health. As Moms, we are always busy. Busy running kids to their doctor appointments, making sure they are brushing their teeth, taking their vitamins and getting enough sleep.
But what about us, Moms?
Are we doing enough to take care of US? If we become ill, who’s going to keep up with everything else? I don’t know about you, but this is a huge concern for me. I want to be around to see my children graduate, get married, have kids, etc. I want to live a long and healthy life. I know we can’t predict the future, but we can take care of ourselves so we can live a good life. We only have one heart, and it’s important we do everything within our power to educate ourselves and protect it!
America Heart Association is also concerned about our health. On their website, Heart.org, they offer numerous tips of what each and every one of us can do to protect our heart and health. Over on their Pinterest boards, they share healthy recipe ideas and tips to help us make healthier life choices.
Here are a few I checked out and pinned to my board:
I like these Green Pepper Bites for a quick and healthy snack!!
During the spring & summer, we plant a big garden in the backyard. If you’re not sure of when you should plant certain fruits & veggies, you can use this produce guide to give you the best times to plant.
I also like this pin about healthy snacks under $1.00 per serving. Be sure to check this pin give you tips about $1.00 serving ideas. I’m always amazed at how people are unaware of all of the healthy choices you can get for free or super cheap. People may think eating healthy is expensive, but there are many ways you can save on healthy and organic choices.
Into yoga or considering it? Here are a few tips on how to do yoga with your kids!
Here are a few more tips and ways you can take care of your health:
Get your annual physical: You may feel perfectly healthy, but your well-woman visit is a must.
Managing your cholesterol, blood pressure, and other controllable risk factors is important in helping to prevent heart disease.
Having a heart-healthy diet is key in helping to prevent heart disease. You can find more healthy recipes ideas on American Heart Association’s Pinterest board!
Exercise regularly: Â Staying active and living healthy is important in lowering your risk for heart disease.
Learn about your genetic family history: I frequently talk about heart disease running in my mom’s family, and now I’m working with my Dad to learn about his side of the family. Speak to your parents and grandparents to find out their history of health issues also. Not only should you be concerned about heart disease, but also things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer. Inform your doctor of your family history and begin monitoring your health statistics early to prevent and detect changes as they occur.
As Moms, Life Is Why we take of our health. My boys and my husband mean a lot to me, and being around here for them is reason enough to make sure I am maintaining a healthy lifestyle. And since I know high blood pressure and heart disease runs in my family, using many of the tips listed above from American Heart Association is what I’m doing to prevent a possible heart attack.
Think about what’s important to you, and how your loved ones will feel if something was to happen to you. I know we can’t prevent every situation in life, but if we do our part to take some of these preventative measures, we’re headed in the right direction.
What are some things you are doing to protect your heart? Feel free to leave me a comment below; I would love to hear from you!

I try to be careful about what fats I use when I cook for not only overall health, but heart health too. I also try to make sure we stay active and regularly exercise our most important muscle.

This is such an important topic to get women thinking about. We do need to be taking care of ourselves if we want to stay around to take care of everyone. I did not know that heart disease was so prevalent with women because it always seems to be men in those commercials.

I never considered yoga to be good for my heart, which I’m sure it is! I started doing yoga because of back problems. Hot yoga definitely gets the heart rate going!

I need to schedule my annual check up. I have had bouts of high blood pressure too bit I’ve attributed to it as being in pain and white coat syndrome. I guess I should check into it.
