Stuffed French Toast Nutella Waffles
We’ve partnered with Krusteaz over the last few months to share the many ways you can use Krusteaz Light & Fluffy Buttermilk Complete Pancake Mix to create delicious recipes, like our French Toast Pancakes Casserole.
However, our love for Krusteaz spans back even further. A friend recommended I try Krusteaz, and I haven’t looked back. That was over 20 years ago. It goes to show that there’s a solution to almost every problem, and there’s something about golden brown waffles that makes my heart go BOOM!
World Nutella Day
We’re super excited to share this collaboration of two brands we love, Krusteaz and Nutella, in today’s post. We love Nutella; it’s a staple in our pantry. Our boys use this delicious hazelnut spread at least 4-5 times a week.
World Nutella Day was this past weekend on February 5th, and Nutella teamed up with Krusteaz (pronounced Crust + Ease) as its premier partner.
We’re excited to share how we’re pairing two of our favorite loves together to create a delicious but super easy breakfast recipe.
Our stuffed nutella French Toast Waffles are a great way to spice up your waffle game and take it to the next level!
Why we love Krusteaz Pancake Mix
Breakfast is an essential part of our family’s daily routine. Starting the day the right way, with a hot breakfast and fun conversation, gives us all the spark we need to have a good day.
Our family are big Krusteaz fans—it’s our favorite pancake and waffle mix! We also love that their waffle recipe is on the back of each box or bag of waffle and pancake packaging. How dope, is that?
For me, Krusteaz waffle and pancake mixes taste better. They use quality ingredients, resulting in pancakes and waffles that taste homemade.
Although the package includes a recipe for waffles, we like to add an extra 1/4 cup of mix, and it’s perfect.
We also add our favorite flavors right into the batter, such as cinnamon, cardamom, chocolate chips, chopped nuts, and blueberries.
Krusteaz Pancake Mix makes perfect pancakes and waffles, allowing us to try new twists and flavors with some of our favorite toppings and add-ins—something we did not do with other boxed pancake mixes.
What You Need To Make Our Nutella French Toast Waffles
Krusteaz Light & Fluffy Buttermilk Complete Pancake Mix. I used the waffle recipe on the back of the box to whip up these delicious waffles in no time flat!
French Toast Batter. Use your favorite French toast recipe, but you can also use our recipe shared below. I used heavy cream, a single farm fresh egg, pure vanilla extract, ground cardamom, and a pinch of sea salt. Mix it all up, and you are good to go!
Fresh Fruit. This time, I used fresh organic strawberries and organic bananas, but feel free to use whatever kind of fresh fruit tickles your fancy. You may also like blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, or sliced peaches. Baked apples with brown sugar and cinnamon are a great combination, too! The possibilities are almost endless!
Nutella. Have you ever made stuffed waffles with Nutella? You are definitely in for a treat. Made with no artificial colors or preservatives, Nutella is a favorite for our waffles and pancakes.
How to make Stuffed French Toast Nutella Waffles
Makes 4-6 Servings
Ingredients:
Waffle Batter
- 2 1/4 cups of Krusteaz Light & Fluffy Buttermilk Complete Pancake Mix
- 1 room-temperature egg
- 2 tbsp of canola oil (I also have used avocado, grape seed, olive, or safflower oil)
- 1 1/2 cup of cold water
- unsalted butter for waffle griddle
Directions:
- Add the ingredients to a bowl and mix until combined, but do not overmix. Overmixing will result in tough pancakes or waffles.
- Preheat your waffle griddle. Add a tbsp of unsalted butter to each section when the griddle is hot.
- Spoon a half-cup or a full cup of waffle batter into each section, and brush the top of the waffle gribble with melted butter or a non-stick cooking spray.
- Close the lid and cook the waffles until they are cooked but not golden brown. They will finish cooking after being dunked into the French toast batter and returned to the waffle maker.
- Remove the waffles from the griddle and set aside. Repeat with the remaining batter.
French Toast Batter
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp of light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp of ground cardamom or cinnamon
- pinch of sea salt or kosher salt
Directions on making French Toast batter:
- In a bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 egg, 1 tbsp of light brown sugar, 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp of ground cardamom or cinnamon(or cardamom), and salt until thoroughly combined.
- Quickly dip each waffle into the batter, coating both sides. Do not soak—just a quick dip to prevent sogginess.
- Cook until the waffles are golden brown.
- Place the dipped waffle back onto the preheated waffle maker. Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crisp, about 2-3 minutes.
- Repeat with the remaining waffles.
Assemble the Stuffed Fench Toast Waffles
- Warm the Nutella slightly in the microwave (10-15 seconds) or over a double boiler for easier spreading.
- Place one waffle on a plate and spread a generous amount of warm Nutella over the top.
- Stack a second waffle on top and spread with more Nutella.
- Garnish with sliced bananas, strawberries, and chopped pecans.
- Serve.
Toppings:
- 1 banana sliced
- 4 strawberries cut into slices
- 1/4 cup whole pecans chopped
Should you make the French toast batter before making the waffles?
Yes, you can make the French toast batter right after preparing the waffle batter.
This saves time because you do not want the waffles sitting around while you make them.
Can this batter be made ahead of time?
The waffle and French toast batter can be made the day or night before.
Store each separately in airtight containers.
Can you freeze waffles?
Yes, you can freeze the waffles. Place them on a baking sheet and freeze them for a few hours.
Place them in a sealed plastic bag, placing parchment paper between each waffle to prevent them from freezing together.
Can you freeze French Toast?
Of course, follow the same procedure as above.
How many does this serve?
This recipe makes 4-6 servings, depending on how big you make your waffles.
Do I have to put nuts in my waffle batter?
If you have a nut allergy or do not like walnuts, you can omit them from the recipe.
Now that you have the recipe give our Stuffed French Toast Waffles with Nutella a try, and you’ll see what we mean about this being the perfect combination!
