Lucchese Boots: Girlfriends Getaway Idea
{that’s Frank. He’s in charge of the leather}
I recently came back from a girlfriends getaway in El Paso, Texas, where touring Lucchese Boots was the best part of the trip! Texas is the land of cattle, and that means a good pair of boots is a must. Not just traditional cowboy boots, but amazing unique and custom made boots that are functional and beautiful. We had a tour of Lucchese Boots while in the area, and seeing not just the huge variety, but learning how they are made is a must. I wasn’t sure what to expect before coming on this tour of the Lucchese factory, but I left with a feeling of “WOW!” Not only did we get to hear about how boots are made (from start to finish, which was an eye-opening experience), we were able to watch the workers in action. I love how they took pride in every single detail, right down to the last stitch. Many of the employees have worked here for over 20 years, and many of their parents and grandparents worked in this same factory as well.
For example, Fernando is a third generation bootmaker. He uses a sewing machine that’s over 100 years. It was mentioned that they brought in a newer machine for him to use, but he preferred to stick to his trusty and reliable machine. I mean, if it’s not broke don’t fix it, right? I loved watching how he took his time with each piece of the material, making sure it was right.
Quality control is the last step before the boots are packaged and shipped out. If they don’t pass this last step, it goes back to the department who made the error. Thankfully, because of the extensive details that go into each pair of boots, few mistakes are made. This was the impression I got from watching all of the workers. They worked efficiently, but they made sure each piece was made with care and quality.
There are over 180 steps in the boot making process. Lucchese Boots started out in San Antonio, Texas, then moved to El Paso because of the skilled laborers were located here. Lucchese is privately owned, and they even have their own polo team which has won championships down through the years.
They have made boots for celebrities, previous presidents, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and more.
All their leather is secondary to the meat process. This means they get the skins after the animals have already been used for another purpose- eating.
Lucchese Boots offers several hundred different animal skins, including stingrays! Wouldn’t it be cool to have your boots made out of the skin from a stingray? When you place a custom order for a pair of boots, it typically takes about 6-8 weeks.
Here are a few fun facts about Lucchese Boots:
- The biggest boot size is 25
- They made a pair of very high boots for Lady Gaga which she wore to the Grammys
- Beavertail is their most unique leather
- Women love getting boots made out of stingray skin because it’s durable
- It takes a full day to hand draw the design on boots
- They have made boots for each State
- Their master boot maker has been here over 40 years (Fidel has made boots for many famous people)
- 99% of the sewers are men

Touring the Lucchese factory, then going to pick out a pair of boots at their retail store was the highlight of my girlfriends getaway. After trying on several pair of a size 11 boot (don’t judge lol), I settled on this beautiful brown pair with turquoise stitching! I’ve worn them a few times already and they feel amazingly comfortable. I was surprised at how smooth they feel on my feet. Apparently, Lucchese is known as one of the best boot makers in Texas (and around the world). While I was boarding the plane to go home, my flight attendant kept trying to get me to give up my boots (in a fun way, lol)!
Yes, Lucchese Boots are definitely worth the price. When you see all the time and effort put into these cowboy boots, including the labor of love, they are worth every penny. If you want a pair of real cowboy boots, planning a trip to El Paso is a must.

I’ve never been into cowboy boots but these are beautiful. While I’m not a fan of wearing snakes on my feet, maybe when I decide that I need a pair I’ll consider Lucchese. After all why not get the best right?
