The holidays may be over, but we have the perfect winter cocktail mixing hot chocolate and whiskey to make a wicked drink, with a simple name as Hot Chocolate Whiskey cocktail.
Okay. Let’s face it. Summer is over, and we’re knee-deep into the colder months and I have the perfect winter cocktail.
This Hot Chocolate Whiskey looks unassuming, but it is anything but. Plus it is an easy and delicious cocktail to pull off with just a few ingredients we’re sharing down below.
What Is Whiskey Hot Chocolate
Whiskey hot chocolate is just as it sounds. Hot chocolate with whiskey mixed in is for sure an adult beverage.
A warm hot chocolate that will soothe a bad day and warm you up from the inside out.
Ingredients Needed for this Hot Chocolate Whiskey Cocktail
Whiskey. So for this winter cocktail, we used a few ounces of Tennessee Whiskey. If you have something else on hand you prefer feel free to swap it out. We just love the flavor of Uncle Nearest’s 1884 in our boozy hot chocolate.
Chocolate Bitters. Adding bitters is an easy way to add complexity and depth to almost any cocktail. For this chocolate creation we are adding chocolate bitters to add warmth and and a mild bitterness to balance the sweetness of the cocoa.
Cocoa Mix. Use a couple of tablespoons of your favorite cocoa mix. We favor Starbuck’s Cocoa Classic but we won’t be mad if use your favorite.
Heavy Whipping Cream. There is nothing like adding heavy whipping cream to your hot chocolate. It makes it all dreamy and creamy. Highly recommend!
Milano Chocolate Syrup. I have tasted a lot of chocolate syrup but this one takes the cake. Add an ounce to the mix and you’ll be good to go.
Ingredients for this winter cocktail:
2 Servings
- 2 ounces of whiskey
- 2 dashes aztec chocolate bitters
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix
- 1/2 ounce of Milano chocolate syrup into each glass

Enjoy!
Can I Make A Batch Of This Chocolate Whiskey cocktail?
If you are planning to serve a crowd and want to make a larger batch go for it. Just adjust the recipe as needed, pour into mugs or cups, and serve and enjoy.
How to Garnish Hot Chocolate
Garnish the rim of the glass with crushed peppermints or add on a dollop of whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon or chocolate shavings.
There are tons of ways you can dress up your cup of hot chocolate. We love to use peppermint as it adds a nice sweet and minty component to the hot chocolate that is just irresistible.
Can I Store Leftovers
You will find it is best to serve this bourbon hot chocolate fresh and warm. I recommend making only what you plan to drink. But if for the chance you have some leftover, you can store it in the fridge in a sealed container for a day or two.
Stir well before drinking as it can separate some.
