Grinch Pretzel Rings Recipe
Creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet! These are quintessential “white chocolate” covered pretzels. Utterly addicting!
The Christmas season is here, and if you’re looking for an easy snack idea, these pretzel rings filled with green candy melts and sprinkles are just what you need.
With only three ingredients, you can have this quick recipe ready to serve in about an hour!
This snack would also work for a Grinch-themed party or Grinch movie night.
Have you watched The Grinch this holiday season? The Jim Carrey version is our favorite, but we also love the newer Grinch movie.
The Grinch (also known as Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch) is a 2018 American computer-animated Christmas fantasy comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Based on the 1957 book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss, it is the third screen adaptation of the story, following the 1966 television special starring Boris Karloff and the 2000 live-action feature-length film starring Jim Carrey. (source)
And the music in The Grinch includes the group Pentatonix, Tyler the Creator, and more! It’s one of my favorite holiday soundtracks.

What You Will Need
Pretzel Rings. These can be found at most grocery stores. If you can’t find them, you can use a square pretzel. I love the look of the round pretzels, but they can sell out fast during the holidays. Around here, a Michigan brand, Better Made, sells them. You can also find them online.
Green Candy Melts. Candy melts are great as they are pre-colored and set up nicely and hard. You are welcome to temper chocolate and skip the candy melts.
Sprinkles. Reach for that classic red heart for the Grinch. Then any other style of Christmas sprinkles works as well! You can find the red heart sprinkles in the grocery store, craft stores, and also online.
How to make Grinch Pretzel Rings
Yields: approx 40 pretzels
Active Time: 20 mins
Chill Time: 15 mins – 1
Ingredients:
- 40 Pretzel Rings
- 1 cup green candy melts (light green and dark green)
- red heart-shaped sprinkles
- Christmas themed sprinkles
Directions:
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- Lay the pretzel rings flat on top of the baking sheet.
- Place the candy melts into a microwave-safe dish. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then continue to microwave in 15-second intervals until melted.
- Once the candy melts have melted, transfer them to a piping bag or a sandwich bag. Snip the tip of the piping bag, then pipe enough green candy to melt into each pretzel ring to fill the centers.
- Place a red heart sprinkle in the middle of about half of the candy-filled pretzel rings, and sprinkle the remaining rings with Christmas-themed sprinkles.
- Let the pretzel centers harden on the counter, refrigerator, or freezer for about an hour.
- Enjoy! Store in an airtight container.
How to Store
Room Temperature. You can store your pretzels in an airtight container on the counter.
If your home is hot, you can store it in the fridge to prevent the chocolate from melting.
The pretzel ring treats will last around two weeks at room temperature.
Freezing. Freeze any of the chocolate pretzels that you don’t plan to eat right away.
Store in the freezer in a freezer bag or container. They will freeze for 4-5 months. Then thaw on the counter for about an hour and then enjoy.
How to pipe with a sandwich bag
Melt your candy melt and place it in a sandwich bag, then press down to one of the ends.
This can be used to mimic a piping bag.
Just make sure to twist the bag, so the pressure is at the tip of the bag that has the hole.
Then pipe as you would with a piping bag.
Can I freeze the pretzels to set them up?
Once the pretzels are ready, place them in the freezer on the tray.
Let it sit in the freezer for 15 minutes or until the chocolate is hardened.
Does the recipe double well?
Of course, you can double or even triple the recipe.
Just work in batches, and if you need to reheat the chocolate, if you find it begins to harden.
You can warm it up in the bag or reheat it back in a bowl and reheat it.
Variations and Tips
I used ½ cup light green candy melts and ½ cup dark green candy melts to get a nice medium green, but you can use any green you like.
Change the color of the candy melts used for some if you want to do more than just the Grinch-themed pretzels. White, red, or even brown melts would be cute.
1 cup of candy melts will roughly fill 40 pretzel rings.
You may need more or less depending on how full you fill each one.
Pretzel Rings are typically a seasonal item, so be sure to start looking for them in mid-late November. You can also order pretzel rings online or pick at the grocery store.
