What You Will Need To Make Our Walleye Tacos
Walleye Fillets. Walleye is a very light, flakey, subtly sweet freshwater fish that is delicious. Some say that walleye is the king of freshwater fish! I think they’re right! Walleye has a mild fish flavor and pairs well with so many main and side dishes.
Olive Oil and Lime Juice. Tons of flavor comes from brushing fresh lime juice onto your walleye, but be careful not to overdo it. Remember, a little lime juice goes a long way. The olive oil also adds a mild flavor, but the oil helps keep the fish from drying out. The olive oil also acts as a barrier when cooking the fish on the hot grill.
Chili Lime Seasoning, Garlic Salt, Sea Salt. Freshly Cracked Black Peppercorns. With these four spices, we are elevating the natural flavor of the walleye. Also, lightly seasoning your walleye fillets is a simple way to achieve incredible flavor.

How Long Does It Take to Cook Walleye?
For this recipe, I grilled on medium-high heat for 6-7 minutes per side. But you can also bake in the oven for 15 minutes or so at 400 degrees. Just make sure the oven is preheated.
What goes well with fish tacos?
Steamed rice, a salad mix, corn salad with lots of colors like green onion and red onions, diced zucchini, and eggplant. You can enjoy fish tacos alone or find additions that work for your family. This truly is a dish that can go with a lot of different sides! Potatoes, rice, or even pasta are all great options to pair with walleye. I also love serving walleye with thin ribbons of sauteed collard greens, kale, or Swiss chard.
Can I make this recipe with other varieties of fish?
Yes, you are welcome to use another type of white fish to replace the walleye. I love the subtly sweet flavor of walleye, and the flesh is both flaky and firm. This is a freshwater fish that isn’t too fishy, and it holds up to both a scant amount of seasoning or more intense seasonings like lemon pepper or Cajun seasoning. However, feel free to swap out walleye for cod, pollock, and any other mild fish.
How do you scorch flour tortillas?
You can use a gas stove or electric stove for this. In a pan, you will place one of the tortillas on the bottom of a hot skillet and allow the heat to brown the tortilla to your liking. Scorching tortillas also makes them crispy, and I love crispy tortillas!
Now, if you have a gas stove, you can carefully lay the corn or flour tortilla directly on the stovetop grate and adjust to a low flame; it won’t take long for the hot flame to scorch the tortilla. Be safe and use a pair of tongs to remove the warm tortilla. I only scorch the tortilla on one side, but that’s just me!
Can I use corn tortillas to replace flour tortillas?
So, if you are a person who doesn’t prefer corn tortillas, no worries, you can use flour tortillas. However, if you have a gluten sensitivity issue, know that flour tortillas aren’t generally gluten-free – but some brands do make gluten-free tortillas, like these. I like both corn and flour tortillas; what’s your favorite?
Can you store leftover walleye?
You can store your leftover fish in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Just make sure the fish is covered and stored in an airtight and microwave (or oven-safe) container. To reheat, add a tablespoon (or more if you are reheating a larger portion of walleye) of water or lemon juice to prevent the fish from drying out.
