There is nothing without passion, nothing. Without the desire to see a thing through to the end, there exists only darkness and cold. – D. Durand Worthey
Finding My Passion {Cocktail Ideas Using Rémy Martin}
Life and living are all about passion. Passion is the impetus, the sustaining force, and the drive. Inspiration and creatively are facets of passion and the direct result of putting forth something into the world of your own making. I am passionate about music. Music is the force that fuels my daily life. As a kid, I remember being captivated by songs like Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, or Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together, Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. Of course, there are countless more, but I have clear memories of the songs that first moved me to feel something unexplainable, and a strong pull to feel and experience it again and again. I was never keyed into one kind of music and in my teen years I remember my mom saying to me, “You will listen to anything won’t you?” And she was right because my musical taste wasn’t dictated by my race, or what was popular or cool. The only condition was whether or not the music moved me or made me feel something that I was willing to feel over and over again. There is an old quote which says, “You never step into the same river twice.” And music for me it is much the same way, because every time you hear the same song, it teaches, illuminates or makes you feel something new.
Somewhere along the way I wanted to become a DJ. I didn’t play a musical instrument, but I loved music just the same. For me, it was about sharing the music I loved with others. And although I never officially became a disc jockey, I did create a blog. The Earology Dept became my DJ experience in long form. For the past six years, I have been sharing the music I love with the world, and it has been an incredible journey. The feedback from my followers, and the occasional band and artists, has been unforgettable. Recent favorites I have shared: Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, and Moderat’s III are both incredible musical experiences worth sharing.
Just over a year ago, I stopped punching the corporate clock and joined my lovely and incredible wife in the world of blogging. We both do this 24/7. And in this capacity I get to dabble in a few new passions, cooking and creating cocktails. The food I have been creating for years, but the cocktail creation and development is a newly discovered interest. Finding new flavors, pairing, and presenting cocktails in a visually appealing way, is something I have discovered that I love doing. And so, courtesy of Rémy Martin, I have created two cocktails which display my love for the new and beautiful. Every time I am in the kitchen, or The Lab, as I like to call it, there is music playing, and so these cocktail creations were born whilst taking in the cool, lush sounds of the Hundred Waters’ phenomenal release The Moon Rang Like A Bell. Cheers!
What is your passion? I am asking you to stop procrastinating and grab the bull by the horns and pursue your dreams. And the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll get there. Don’t forget to enter the Rémy Martin Sweepstakes and never settle for less than what you really want.
