The holiday season is here, so we’re welcoming the season of Elf on the Shelf.
Whether you’re doing this for the first year or last year, there are many ways to have fun each year.
When does Elf on the Shelf arrive?
This will depend entirely on how long you want to move the little red and white doll every night.
Most people start this Christmas tradition after Thanksgiving.
While other families will start on December 1st, go until December 24th, or have the elf leave on Christmas Day.
You could also have the elf’s return happen the same night you put up the Christmas tree.
How to introduce the new elf?
On the elf’s arrival into your home for the first time, a great way to introduce the kids to this Elf on the Shelf tradition is by reading the book that accompanies the elf.
If you don’t have the book, you can order it here.
Once your child is introduced to their new boy elf or girl elf, they must come up with a name.
There are so many great options for naming your elf.
Check out the most popular ones if you need elf’s name ideas.
You could even name them your child’s name.
What’s the point of this?
It’s a fun way to celebrate the Christmas season.
Many families set up their dolls to remind their kids to be on their best behavior during Christmas time so that Santa Claus can bring them presents.
However, this can easily backfire.
When I started doing this with our boys, I thought of the elves as scouts who returned to Santa each night.
But, as the kids got older and smarter, our ideas became fun and mischievous.
Doing the Elf on the Shelf tradition each year can be great fun while creating memories for your kids.
If you do advent calendars with the kids, you can make one for this tradition.
Some parents do find moving the elf each night overwhelming. Trust me; I get it.
