Disney Backpacks | A List Of What You Need In Your Backpack For A Day At Walt Disney World
Waltzing through the security check at Walt Disney World parks because you don’t have a backpack is fun. But it’s even more fun to be prepared throughout the day when specific needs arise. Rarely in Disney parks are you not able to bring a backpack onto an attraction. Lockers are available, but in most cases, you can keep a bag with you all day wherever you go. It’s a good thing too because some useful items saved in an easy to carry backpack can dramatically improve your in-park experience. Here are some essential things to bring in your Disney park backpack.
Snacks. The first thing you should consider when filling up your Disney park backpack is healthy snacks. That is important for several reasons. First, It gives you a healthy option if you are avoiding too much junk food. Second, it saves a lot of money, the more you choose your snacks versus something bought in the parks. There is another more practical reason, as well. For busy days when you do not have a lunch reservation at a table service restaurant, you may struggle to find a convenient place to have a meal. Dipping into your backpack for a snack buys you some time without costing anything.
People ask all the time, can you bring water into Disney World.
The answer is yes! You can bring your own water bottles and bottled water. Water might be even more important to pack in your Disney park backpack than snacks. Hydration is critical when you are walking in the park all day. The Florida weather can get extremely hot and staying hydrated is not always easy. Some places will offer free ice water, but in most cases, you are likely to spend about $5 on each bottle of water you drink. That is unless you bring it in yourself. When you pack your luggage, pack enough water to last you throughout the vacation. 24 waters will likely cost you about the same as one of the exact same bottles in the parks.
Clothes. It’s a brilliant idea to pack a change of clothes. Whether you bring a light sweater, in case it gets cold, or an entirely new set for a change in venue, thinking ahead to your future needs can keep you comfortable and help you avoid returning to your hotel room too soon in the day.
Medication. Prescribed medication is super essential, but even OTC remedies for conditions such as heartburn or allergies should be included in your Disney park backpack. Traveling with the right pain reliever can save a vacation. If you get a splitting headache and you go to the souvenir shop for a small bottle of aspirin, it’s going to cost you.
Charger. If you use your phone a lot (and you will be at Walt Disney World), you will need your charger. You are going to be taking photos and videos all day long. You are also going to be utilizing My Disney Experience, which will eat up battery life. If that doesn’t do it, the Play Disney Parks app will. Even if you charged up using one of the USB ports in your room, bring along a charger, or extra battery pack just in case.
Weather-Related Accessories. Like the aspirin, you will want to come prepared for the surprising weather changes central Florida is known to have. Pack sunglasses as well as some cheap disposable ponchos. Getting caught in the rain without a poncho can be expensive if you resort to one of the Disney vendors. You can stop by a Dollar store to get cheap ponchos.
Tray. This item is not for all cases necessarily, although, with Disney parks featuring so many Instagrammable snacks, it’s not a bad idea. The main reason this should be a consideration is the festivals that happen throughout the year in Epcot. If you like to buy many snacks and small plates from outdoor vendors and kiosks, a tray will help as you find a place to sit down and eat your grub.
Straws. The Disney parks no longer carry plastic straws and now use paper. Although plastic straws are prohibited from select areas in Walt Disney World, there has been no update on the policy to outright ban guests from bringing plastic straws into parks other than Disney’s Animal Kingdom. If you like non-water-soluble straws, you will need to bring your own.
Tote. There are not likely to be many instances where you will need an extra bag to carry merchandise. You can have the store send it to your hotel. However, to avoid ending up with a full Disney park backpack and lumbering around with excessive souvenirs, you may want to bring a neatly folding tote that you can produce when such a need arises.
Autographs/Coin Book/etc. Finally, if you are a hobbyist, collector, or both, you may want to carry along something to aid you in your quest for pressed coins, or autographs. Even a nice book or lanyard for pins you choose to buy would be a good idea for your backpack.
Baby wipes. Chances are you will get dirty and sweaty during your trip to Disney World. Keeping a pack of baby wipes on hand can help. Use them to clean up after the bathroom, to clean hands before meals, or just to freshen up after sweating it out! They will help you feel fresh and smell great. Even when traveling with teens, I still carry wipes!
Sunscreen. Should you need to buy sunscreen at the park, you will pay a huge markup. Be sure to bring your own so you can avoid the extra fees. The park does get hot and whether you realize it or not, your skin is getting sun exposure. Prevent burn by bringing your own sunscreen!
Certain first aid items. Disney World has first aid stations with basic first aid, but there are additional items you may want to bring. Bring your own motion sickness medicine if you get sick easily on rides. You may also want to bring your own pain reliever and heartburn medicine should the festivities start to wear on you. They do have these items in the park, but again they come at a big markup plus you will need to wait in line to buy them.
A change of shoes. You will be doing a ton of walking, so be sure to bring an extra pair of shoes. If you wear tennis shoes to the park, you might want to flip flops to change into at rest or dinner time. If you wear flip flops or sandals to the park, your feet might get sore after so long and you may want tennis shoes. Either way, an extra pair is always nice to have on hand.
