Loaded Deep Fried Turkey Burger
For this holiday meal idea, I made Deep Fried Turkey Burgers and paired them with the 2018 Decoy Limited Cabernet Sauvignon. Why burgers? Our goal was to create easy to prepare foods that bring us joy, and burgers were an easy choice. For beef burgers, go with the Decoy Limited Cabernet Sauvignon because the pronounced tannins pairs well with the beef burgers and smoked gouda.
However, we enjoyed the 2018 Decoy California Pinot Noir with our turkey burgers; the lighter acidity complemented the turkey burger and the melted Swiss cheese.
If you love burgers, you’ll love our burgers even better because we deep-fried them with a potato batter until they were golden brown. Finish the deep-fried turkey burgers in the oven at 350 for fifteen minutes for the perfect juicy burger with a crispy coating!
What Is A Deep Fried Turkey Burger
A deep-fried turkey burger is a seasoned ground turkey patty that is then dredged in a potato batter and then deep-fried in oil. This is a simple way to dress up a burger.
How long do you deep fry a burger?
You will deep fry the burgers for a few minutes until they are golden brown in color. Remove and place on a baking sheet and you will finish them off in the oven.
You will bake the turkey battered burgers for 15 minutes or until the internal temperature of the ground turkey reaches 165 degrees.
How to store leftover deep-fried burgers?
Like any deep-fried food, you will find it is best served fresh and warm. If you don’t eat all your burgers right away, you can store them in an airtight container for 2-3 days in the fridge.
Then to eat, what I recommend doing is heating it up in the skillet to help provide that crispy outside. Or if you want to reheat it fast, go ahead and toss it in the microwave.

Alternative to Seltzer Water
If you don’t happen to have seltzer water or don’t want to buy it for this recipe, you can use bottled water and lemon juice. Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 cup of water.
Mix and then use in the recipe as directed. The acid in the lemon juice will be similar to seltzer water.
Variations And Tips For Fried Turkey Burgers
- You can use any Creole-style seasoning if you don’t have old bay seasoning.
- If you don’t have fresh mashed potatoes you could use instant potatoes. It will alter the flavor a bit.
- You could even make this recipe with ground beef instead of turkey.
- You can also use peanut oil for frying if you don’t have canola or vegetable on hand. It is important to have oil that can handle higher heat without smoking.
