Creamy Hot Chocolate Recipe
Hot chocolate just got an upgrade. We took this hot chocolate favorite and added heavy cream for a rich and creamy taste.
You have the option of adding alcohol to this hot chocolate recipe for an adult spin that is as chocolaty as it is boozy!
Like all cocktails you can make them as boozy as you need them to be, add a little or a lot, it is totally up to you!
What You Will Need To Make Our Creamy Hot Chocolate Recipe
Electric Kettle. The SMEG electric kettle is extremely good at boiling water for coffee or tea but is equally efficient at making hot chocolate. However, you can use another type of electric kettle or make it on the stove using a saucepan.
Heavy Whipping Cream. Heavy whipping cream makes the best hot chocolate. But use half and half, or non-dairy milk if that’s your thing. But for me, I am sticking with the heavy cream!
Cocoa Mix. I used Starbuck’s Classic Cocoa Mix, and it worked like a charm in this grown folk’s hot cocoa cocktail.
Tennessee Whiskey. I love whiskey, but I especially love Uncle Nearest Tennessee whiskey! But your grown; if you have a favorite on hand, then go ahead and use that. Like you need me to tell you that, right?
Dark Chocolate Sauce. I am not sure about anyone else, but this Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce is the truth! Yes, it is that good!
Milano Chocolate Syrup. I love this chocolate syrup the most, and I have tried a gang of chocolate syrups, and this one is at the top of the list. Trust me on this one because it is a bonafide winner!
Milk Foam. I used half and half to make milk foam for this whiskey cocktail, mainly because the milk foam floats lightly on top of the hot cocoa cocktail and drinks a lot smoother than the whipped cream.
Shaved Chocolate. Topping this warm cocktail creation with shaved chocolate is a nice decadent touch that tastes as good as it looks!
Why a SMEG Kettle?
Tatanisha has had her eye on a SMEG Kettle for several years. She received one from her sister as a Christmas gift two years ago, and we’ve enjoyed using it for making tea and other hot drinks.
When doing our research to decide which electric kettle to purchase, the SMEG came highly recommended with good reviews.
Here’s a little more about the SMEG Kettle.
Italian-based SMEG is known for its ’50s retro-aesthetic appliances designed in collaboration with some of the world’s top architects. This electric kettle combines iconic midcentury style with modern features. Choose from a selection of luscious colors that match other SMEG appliances for a coordinated collection.
- 360˚ swivel base.
- Auto-shutoff when the water reaches temperature or when the kettle is lifted from the base.
- Easy-to-read water-level indicators in both cups and liters.
- A Soft-opening lid prevents the sudden release of steam.
- Removable, washable stainless steel limescale filter.
We’ve owned this kettle for a few years now, and recommend it as a top contender. Another option is the Fellow electric kettle.
The Fellow is still on our wish list because we love the Gooseneck style for making pour-over coffee.
Our favorite milk frother is the Breville Milk Café
Now, a word about the Breville Milk Café Electric Frother. We love it! Why? The Milk Café is a machine that does what it says it can do, and it does it beautifully!
This beautifully made milk frother comes with two attachments, one makes a lighter froth, and the other makes a billowy froth.
This electric frother is easy to operate and has an adjustable temperature dial (110° – 180°), including a cold foam setting.
I also love how easy the Milk Café is to clean. If you are thinking about or looking for a quality milk frother, we highly recommend this one.
If you don’t have an electric milk frother, you can use a handheld frother.
