Coco Key Water Resort Orlando: Budget-Friendly Choice
Orlando, Florida is one of our favorite places to vacation, and it’s also a hot spot for travel all year round. I think I have lost count of how many times we have vacationed to the land of Mickey Mouse and perpetual sunshine. However, there are many additional surprises that await in the Orlando area besides Walt Disney World.

With so many fun things to do in Orlando, the price tag on a vacation can add up quickly. But when you plan wisely you can save money on your Florida big time. If you need some tips on ways to save money for your vacation, be sure to read How To Start Saving Money for Vacations This Summer.
One of the best ways is to find a great place to stay that has a full list of amenities and activities for the kids (assuming you have rugrats).
Coco Key Water Resort is exactly what it sounds like, a whole lot of water themed F-U-N. Located near Universal Orlando and SeaWorld, it is a solid 3-star hotel, in my opinion, and its epicenter features an on-site water park.
The Coco Key Water Resort boasts an impressive 391 guest rooms. Visit their website to find which vacation option best fits your families’ needs. I loved that the rooms were pleasantly nice and clean.
The park has a lot of fun water activities to keep everyone entertained. There are three pools, 14 water slides, poolside entertainment, and lots of splashing good times to be had, and all of it was specially designed for kids in a safe and friendly environment. The water park admission for up to 4 people, per room, per day, including the day of check out, is included in the room rate.
In addition to the 54,000 sq. ft. canopy covered and outdoor water park, there are other activities to do while visiting Coco Key Water Resort. There is a state-of-the-art arcade, 3 restaurants on site, a convenience store for those things you need right away. Each day, there are scheduled activities for the kids, so check ahead of time to help plan your day. These activities run from 10:30 am until 8:30 pm.
The hotel amenities offers parking, Wi-Fi, exclusive resort pool access and water park towel service. There is a fitness center, business center, with high speed internet and complementary printing service and a scheduled shuttle service to Universal Orlando and Sea World. Also, with the purchase of a Busch Gardens ticket, there is complimentary transportation to the park too.
While staying at the hotel, the first 2 days, the kids were content with playing at the water park. Of course, being in Orlando, soon the rest of the attractions were calling their names. Another great thing that makes Coco Key Water Resort a great place to stay. Close by the hotel, there is a strip with lots of shops to enjoy some shopping, including the Orlando Premium Outlets International Drive, all within 3 miles of the hotel and features 180 outlet stores. The Mall at Millenia is just 3 miles and features over 150 stores, restaurants and The Florida Mall, 6 miles away. There are also several places to eat if you are looking for something more than the on-site restaurants. Wet N Wild waterpark is only a short 10 minute walk from the hotel and Disney World is just a short drive away.
What we enjoyed most about Coco Key:
- Easy access to the water park (just a short walk to the main floor)
- Fun amenities on the property, besides the water park {arcade area with fun games}
- separate water areas for the little and big kids
- the boys really enjoyed some of the bigger water slides
- This Mom enjoyed having a bar onsite to grab a nice, cold fruity drink while watching the kids
- budget-friendly/affordable hotel
- access to restaurants, such as Chick-Fil-A (the boys ate there almost every single day)
- easy access to other attractions
With the twins being on the Autism Spectrum, I felt this hotel served to be appropriate for them. There were no surprises, accommodating staff, and giving the boys something they enjoy: water and more water!
While visiting Orlando and trying to keep your vacation budget in check, the Coco Key Water Resort is a great hotel to consider. With so many fun on-site activities that will  keep the kids happy, and so many nearby the resort is a budget friendly way to enjoy Orlando with your family on your next vacation.
Savings tip: Keep an eye on their website, Groupon and Living Social (they have a deal going on now). I see deals for Coco Key on there quite frequently!

Travel tip: Best time to travel is in the fall or winter before the Spring break/summer rush. You can score nights as low as $60 per night if you travel during the off-peak season.
Planning tip: Coco Key has laundry facilities on site, so don’t plan to pack a lot of clothes! The kids will be in swimsuits and shorts most of the time! Tips For Packing For Travel With Kids
