The Christmas season is here, and so many Christmas movies are on Netflix this year.
We’ve rounded up some of the best Christmas shows to watch, a few favorites, and new ones coming out in November and December.
Christmas Movies on Netflix
As Halloween ends and Christmas quickly approaches, we’re looking for the best holiday content on Netflix.
There are so many Christmas movies to get us into the season.
However, it did not take long to discover that several of the classics are missing.
Many of the holiday offerings are similar in plot, the storyline (and acting, and budget).
Some movies will be a fun way to stretch out the season.
On the other hand, These are some can’t-miss Christmas shows on Netflix during November and December.
Why isn’t The Grinch or How the Grinch Stole Christmas streaming on Netflix?
*update for 2022. The Grinch and How the Grinch Stole Christmas are currently not streaming on Netflix due to Netflix’s deal with the film’s production companies Illumination, and Universal Pictures expired.
Currently, you can stream The Grinch and How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Hulu Live or rent or purchase from \Amazon Prime Video.
You can also rent The Grinch on Apple TV.
The Grinch
Universal’s animation studio Illumination is best known for the minions, but they have also churned out notable Dr. Seuss adaptations. The latest was The Grinch, which debuted last year. This take on How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a more child-targeted film that’s great fun for the whole family.
The Grinch is wittier, edgier, and yet more palatable all at the same time. The world of Whoville is brighter and better defined than ever, and the music by Danny Elfman will tickle the nostalgia center in your brain. This is definitely on our list of favorite Christmas movies to watch yearly.
And, of course, you’ll have to add How The Grinch Stole Christmas to your Netflix Christmas movie list.
While both Grinch movies have similar themes, they each hold their own when it comes to Christmas movies.
We watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas every single Christmas, which never gets old.

Christmas Chronicles
When we first watched Christmas Chronicles, it was instant love at first sight.
Not many can pull off being the best Santa, but Kurt Russell does an amazing job. Tim Allen still holds the number one spot of being the best Santa.
This kid-friendly adventure is warm and heartfelt.
The brother and sister duo is sweet to watch as they work together to save Christmas.
Klaus
This beautiful piece of animation tells a new variation on the legend of Santa Claus. In a 19th century setting, a failed postal worker named Jesper, exiled to a remote northern town, meets a toy-making woodsman. Jesper is tasked with mailing an insurmountable number of letters on an island where the residents are deeply divided against each other.
In an attempt to get the ball rolling, he delivers a drawing to the woodsman, who responds by taking a toy to the boy’s house. Other children become interested, and Jesper fans the flames, eager to partner with the toymaker. The partnership unites the feuding families while explaining various beliefs we have about Santa Claus.
This Christmas on Netflix
We fell in love with This Christmas from the first time we watched it. And it doesn’t hurt that there’s a ton of eye-candy in this movie, including Idris Elba. Plus, the music is soulful and just what you want to play in the background as you decorate the tree.
The star-studded cast with Loretta Devine as the mom (she is always someone’s mama) makes this a Christmas movie you’ll want to watch again and again.
Note: if you love watching Loretta Devine, another Black Christmas movie to watch is A Family Reunion Christmas.
New original Christmas movies coming to Netflix
As we start the holiday season, we have a few new Christmas movies for 2020. There are two that we are super excited about, and we’re sharing about them below.
Christmas Chronicles 2
As a big fan of Christmas Chronicles, I was very excited to learn of the sequel coming soon.
It looks like one of the most epic Christmas shows on Netflix. The movie appears to be the most cinematic exploration of the North Pole ever shown. It also delves deep into a mythology of its own rife with conflict and high stakes. It appears to have dynamic and engaging action sequences, pure fun, adventurous spirit, and family focus. I believe Christmas Chronicles 2 is going to be another traditional favorite around the holidays.
Christmas Chronicles 2 arrives on Netflix on November 25th.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
We don’t know a lot about this movie yet, except that it is visually stunning and has a tremendous cast, including Forest Whitaker, Keegan Michael-Key, and Phylicia Rashad. What I can tell you about the story is that it centers around a toymaker. It’s also very fantastical in nature. The toys are mechanized tantalizing things that make for lots of eye candy.
The story’s focus is on his efforts and his newly introduced granddaughter to restore the past in the aftermath of a betrayal. It’s one of the most Christmassy-looking Christmas shows on Netflix this year.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey arrives on Netflix on November 13th.
Honorable mentions:
Christmas on the Square with Dolly Parton– November 22nd
The Princess Switch: Switched Again- November 19th
Operation Christmas Drop- November 5th
Holidate– October 28th
Just Another Christmas– December 3rd
