23 Best Laundry Hacks Every Mom Needs To Know
Laundry.
Just typing this word reminds me of the several loads of laundry downstairs waiting for me. There are days where I felt I conquered my laundry like a boss. And other times, I’ve felt like a slave to my laundry room. I mean, how many pairs of underwear can ONE kid have?
I’m very picky about the type of detergent I use as well. There are only a few brands I love and trust. I think my skin is also a snob to a particular detergent, because when I use any other brand, I start to break out BIG time. I’ve also noticed the same thing with my youngest son. He has a pretty bad case of eczema. Certain detergents, lotion, body wash, etc. will break him out. Right now he has been suffering from a severe case of dry skin around his neck and face.
His doctor prescribed a special cream for him and had me narrow down different products attributing to his breakouts.
We also narrowed down our detergents to just a few. One being all® free clear detergent. Seeing that this particular detergent is the #1 recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians, we decided to give it a try. It was critical to find a detergent that would not irritate his skin, nor trigger additional outbreaks. The all® free clear detergent not only cleans your clothes, but it is 100% free of dyes and perfumes. This is also a win-win for me. I suffer from migraines, and powerful scents is an easy trigger. And since I am the one on consistent laundry duty, I am thankful to use a detergent with no scent.
As a busy Mom, it’s important to me to use my time wisely. I put together a list of some of my favorite time-saving and money-saving ways to use while doing the laundry. I’m not a HUGE fan of being stuck in the laundry room, overwhelmed by mountains of clothes, but when I do I want to get in and out quickly.
23 Best Laundry Hacks Every Mom Needs To Know:
- Don’t throw away old all® free clear detergent bottles. Reuse them in your garden for watering cans.
- Use Aluminum Foil instead of dryer sheets. Not only will this save you money, but also you can recycle your used foil!
- Did you know you can use chalk or baby powder to get out grease stains? Genius!
- Use lemon juice to get stains out of clothes.
- Milk crates are handy to have in the laundry room. They can be mounted on walls to add extra shelf room, and they can hold clothing and rags as well.
- Want to dry your clothes faster? Stick a dry towel in the dryer with your wet clothes!
- Add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the wash to get your clothes extra white.
- Get more from your dryer sheets by cutting them in half.
- This may seem like a duh, but clean your washing machine on a regular basis. This will not only help save the life of your machine but ensures your clothes are coming out CLEAN. You can use white vinegar, bleach, or special washing detergent made for your machine. {be sure to read your manual!}
- Minimize your sorting time by having separate baskets for whites, colors, special {dry-cleaning} clothes. Each family member will be responsible for bringing their clothes down to the laundry room and placing them in the correct basket.
- Use LESS Detergent. Using the all® free clear Mighty Pacs® makes your job a whole lot easier. Instead of measuring out how much detergent you need to use, you can just throw in a Mighty Pacs®, and you’re ready to go!
- Check out all the creative ways you can keep your socks together with our easy sock hacks ideas.
- Clean your lint traps regularly. Your clothes take longer to dry (wasting energy) when these are dirty. Plus, it can be a fire hazard.
- Washing comforters, pillows or other similar items? Throw a few tennis balls in the dryer to get that fluffy, hotel look.
- Do you love to do laundry? Start a laundry service in your home to make some extra money. And with the 120 count of all® free clear Mighty Pacs®, your detergent will go FAR.
- Get a mason jar with a lid to use as a change jar. Everyone knows lots of change ends up getting cleaned from pockets. Don’t just set it in random places. Place it in a jar in your laundry room and use the change to buy your detergent or for something else.
- Did you know white bread can be used to get out lipstick stains? Don’t you hate when people kiss you at funerals and weddings and leave lipstick stains on the collar of your shirt? Total, pet peeve for me! So this is a great solution!
- Hang your clothes to dry in the sun. This will not only save you some money but will leave your clothes a little brighter!
- Empty, empty, empty the pockets. #nuffsaid
- Have a favorite show? Watch it while you’re doing laundry. You won’t feel guilty for wasting a few hours on Game of Thrones, Scandal or Ellen. Or if you like to be extra productive, put in your favorite podcast or TedTalk episode and get to work.
- Use hairspray or hand sanitizer to get those tough ink-stains out of your clothes.
- Have a laundry day. When you have a dedicated day to do laundry, this will help you from feeling like a slave to your laundry room. When you have ONE day (or two) dedicated to getting all of the laundry done, you don’t have to think about it for a week or so. Yes, you can thank me later for this one. Staying organized is one way I can get quickly in and out of the laundry room. Unless we’re talking about socks, then it’s a different story.
- And when all else fails, have the kids help do the laundry. I mean, that’s why we have them, right?
Using all® free clear Mighty Pacs® allows me not to think about skin sensitivities since this brand can be trusted. As a reminder, “all free clear is not intended to treat or prevent allergies.” I stopped by local Sam’s Club and picked up my detergent. I am a frequent shopper at Sam’s, especially when it makes sense to buy in bulk. You can find the all® free clear Mighty Pacs® in the laundry aisle at your local store. Be sure to follow the instructions and not use too many Mighty Pacs® per load.
What are some of your favorite laundry hacks? How do you save time in the laundry room? Do you or your children have a skin sensitivity? What are you doing differently to ensure their detergent is not the culprit?

Wow! There are so many good hacks in this post I don’t even know whee to start! I’ve never heard of using aluminum foil instead of dryer sheets, but once I run our of dryer sheets I’m going to give that a try! And I am one of the few people who love doing laundry, so I may consider starting a little laundry business. I remember when I was a kid my mom used to take out our ironing. I think back then it cost a nickel per item.

This is a great list of laundry dos and don’ts. I do laundry every day (there are 6 of us) and it gets frustrating! But I love the free and clear detergent!

These are great tips. I actually have a couple of milk crates in my laundry room. They’re perfect for keeping organized.

I have found that CVS carries a generic brand which works just as well (Just the Basics). Some weeks you can even pick up a BOGO sale!

I love the hacks. I had no idea that you could toss foil into the dryer. I’ll have to look into this because I’m trying to stop using those awful dryer sheets.
I get my kids to help with the laundry all the time. 🙂

I love all of these hacks. I actually use All Clear as well because it’s one of the few that work with my youngest daughters skin. She’s got eczema, so I have to be careful with what I use for her. My oldest daughter loves to help me put clothes away, so it’s nice to have her helping out.

I need a dedicated laundry day. Otherwise it seems to just sit in the dryer, then the basket, until we pull it out and wear it. It never actually gets put away!

When my babies were little, we had to have detergent for sensitive skin. They both would break out in this superfine rash and make their skin a mess if I used anything with color or smell.

Just like you, I also suffer from migraine so picking the laundry detergent that has mild scent is always a priority for me.

Great tips! I also use lemon juice to get stain out of clothes. I’ll try sticking in a towel to dry up clothes faster in the dryer.
