Top 10 Back To School Diffuser Blends
As we prep for another back to school season, besides buying school supplies and all of those essentials, I’m also stocking up on my oils. If you’re a teacher, work in the classroom, or have kids who are going back to school, you want to make sure you have these essential oils on hand!
You should always be sure to use only pure essential oils in your diffuser, and sometimes even the ones that are labeled “organic” or “plant based” are not truly free of toxins or chemicals, so just be sure you are buying only ones that are therapeutic grade and free of perfumes or additives.
So, here are the top 10 diffuser blends that should cover most things you would encounter in the classroom.
Now, depending on which type of diffuser you have, the amounts in these recipes I am about to give you will vary. These are written for the type of diffuser where you fill the small bottom half or so with water and then drop in some oils. If you have one where you put on a bottle of oils or it works another way, you will have to tweak the amounts or make a blend in a separate bottle to attach.
Cold & Flu Season Fighter Blend – This is great to help kill any germs, colds or viruses in the air, and is even good to run in the diffuser once a week, maybe make it a habit to do every Monday morning, or every Friday afternoon right after the kids leave, to clear the air. If you have a bug going around your classroom, do it a few times a day to help prevent it from spreading in addition to killing the germs. Place the following drops into the diffuser: 2 drops of oregano or clove, 2 drop of lemon, 1 drop of Melaleuca & 2 drops of peppermint.
The oregano and clove are there are as the powerhouse oil to really make sure the bug is gone. They have both been proven over & over to kill germs and bacteria, and oregano even kills MRSA. They are both very potent and maybe not the favorite aroma of the oils, especially the oregano, but they work amazingly. The lemon cleanses the air also, but also uplifts, and adds a fresh scent. The Melaleuca kills fungus & bacteria and is great for your body overall, and the peppermint is antiviral and is very uplifting, helping to awaken and enliven, while also adding a fresh scent to the blend.
Calming Diffuser Blend – This blend is good for just before/during nap time – or for just after a time of high activity, like recess or a special event, that gets the kids all wound up. Place in the following drops – 3 orange or bergamot and 4 lavender. The orange or bergamot has a wonderful, uplifting scent, but they uplift while keeping calm and balance going. They also give off a happy feeling to the mood. Lavender is used for calming and is the most popular of essential oils. It will help take the energy level down a notch and keep things way more even-keeled.
Afternoon Slumps blend – This blend is good for the afternoon lulls, you know those that creep up after lunch when everyone just wants the day to wind down. It can help awaken everyone, without causing chaos. Place in the following drops: 3 lemon, 3 peppermint or spearmint and 1 patchouli or frankincense. The peppermint or spearmint helps awaken you, and give you focus and energy, the lemon uses that freshness to help you feel uplifted and motivated, and the patchouli or frankincense is wonderful for the brain, waking it up and helping it focus.
Focus and Concentration Blend –This one is for use when you have an important lesson, or a test and no one is really into it. You can start it before you even begin the lesson if you feel like things are going to be a challenge, or you know it will be hard to keep them on task. Place in: 3 drops patchouli or frankincense, 2 drops peppermint, 2 drops lime. The lime is much like lemon, and it is a great aroma that uplifts and awakens, the peppermint helps you focus, and wakes you up and the patchouli and frankincense are brain activating oils. They both work well and are powerful for improving the mind and keeping it on task.
Germ fighting blend – This one is similar to the cold & flu one, but more for an everyday diffusing. It will help kill the germs and bacteria without a harder scent and makes a nice, light aroma while doing the work in the air. Add the following oils: 3 drops rosemary, 3 drops lemon, 1 drop peppermint. Rosemary is a powerful oil that has many uses but it is a true germ fighter and will cleanse the air thoroughly. Lemon combined with it smells amazing and cleanses as well. Peppermint adds the light, fresh scent while also helping to cleanse.
Refreshing citrus blend – This blend is to cheer up the room. You know there are days when everyone seems to be in a funk! Including the teacher. This blend will cheer them up and lift them up, and in no time, you’ll be back to normal. Place in: 3 drops of orange or bergamot, 2 drops white fir, and 2 drops frankincense. The citrus as we mentioned is a sure way to cheer up and uplift and gives a happy type of calming, getting rid of agitation. The white fir is a fantastic aroma, especially combined with the citrus and helps clear the air and give a happy, and satisfied feeling. The frankincense balances the mood and the mind.
Appetite Suppressant blend – If your class are like most others, your kids probably are constantly asking for snacks or whining for a lunch break.Well, not only does peppermint have all the benefits already mentioned, but peppermint oil has been proven to be a wonderful appetite suppressant. Diffuse a few drops during the day, such as after breakfast or in the afternoon. This will help them feel satisfied and awake simultaneously. They will be able to focus on their work and keep their mind off of food.
Anxiety & Focusing blend – This is a test-taking blend. Or for use when you can’t keep their attention or they are worked up about something. Use it slightly before and during a test. Place in: 3 drops lime, 2 drops orange, and 3 drops rosemary. Lime and orange both help calm and help you feel happy and more relaxed, without a sleepy factor involved, and they both help you focus as well. The rosemary is great for the mind and works wonders for the memory.
Energizing Blend – This is a great pick-me-up blend for after P.E. or physical activities. Place in: 3 drops peppermint, 4 drops grapefruit or lime. Peppermint helps with mental and physical tiredness and wakes you up while lifting the mood. The grapefruit is a sweet, and light aroma that provides energy and gives an overall feeling that helps motivate and uplift.
ADD/ ADHD focus blend – This blend is great for students who have extra trouble or challenges staying focused and on task. It works to calm them mentally and also help clear their mind of the extra chatter so they can focus on just what they need to. Place in: 2 drops vetiver, 2 drops patchouli, 2 drops Frankincense and 2 drops lime. Vetiver is perfect for calming and to stop mind chatter both, Patchouli and Frankincense as mentioned above, balance the mind and help it to focus and the lime uplifts and helps with focus and mood.
Hopefully, these oil blends will help your child do well in school. With the twins going to high school this year, I’m planning on working on a variety of blends to help them succeed at school and home, but also not have a ton of anxiety and stress. I would add to your list oregano oil. I have been using oregano eo for almost every day. It has been my own natural home remedy. For flu & cold, I diffuse it mostly in the evening before going to bed.
