Back To School Essentials For Middle School
Summer is almost over, and it’s time to think about back to school stuff. What do kids need
I’m so not ready!!
This year, the twins will be going to high school (someone hold me), and the youngest is off to middle school! My kids are growing up way too fast, and I can’t stop this moving train!
However, as you prepare your middle schooler for all of the new changes, don’t forget about all the middle school essentials they will need! One thing for sure, you don’t need to buy any more crayons and pencil boxes!
But, what essentials do kids to have for middle school?
I’ve already been down this road with the twins, so I am going to share a list of essentials kids will need for middle school.
Here are a few things to keep in mind.
Before you go shopping, shop at home. When the boys get out of school each year, I go through their leftover supplies and put them up for the next school year. Then, before going out to shop for new school supplies, we take an inventory to see what we already have in our supply closet. This not only saves you time but money!
Buy a new backpack. Upgrade it something that will be durable, but will also define your growing child.
Lock and Locker accessories. Now that your child is off to Middle School, they will be assigned a locker. Many schools have locks/combinations already on the lockers. If so, you can skip buying the lock, but you will still need to buy a few locker accessories.
Tip: Go up to the school at least 2-3 times before school starts to have your child practice opening up their locker. They should also do a few trial runs to make sure they know where each class is located, and can get there and to their locked within the 5 minute period.
Clothes. Take an inventory of what they can and cannot wear. Kids usually grow over the summer. Check sales, hit up the outlets, garage sales, and thrift stores for new clothes. Your child’s style may change over the summer. Many kids want to wear the latest fashions and name brand clothing. My boys are into that, and I shop at the discount stores and outlets for those particular items.
Hygiene supplies. If your child isn’t wearing deodorant already, now is this time to start buying those items. My youngest has been wearing deodorant for over a year now, and I am buying him a few extra ones to keep in his backpack and locker. I also buy Wet Ones® Hand Wipes. Wet Ones® Hand Wipes clean up messy hands and kill 99.99% of germs. All the boys will have a travel size pack in their backpacks. They come in handy when you need to wipe your hands and don’t have water available.

We started and finished our back to school shopping a long time ago. This list is exactly what I buy for my boys, both in high school and junior high. Time flies so you better enjoy them while they’re young.
