Marvel’s Avengers – Infinity War comes out this weekend! I’m sharing my thoughts on Infinity War and my spoiler-free movie review of Avengers – Infinity War, down below.
Avengers- Infinity War Movie Review {spoiler-free}
First, I promise not to share any spoilers.
Second, know that it is hard for me not to share spoilers. Still, I am resisting because I want everyone to have the same “virgin” unspoiled experience I had watching this incredible rollercoaster of a movie known as Avengers: Infinity War.
Third, OMG- Infinity War BLEW my freaking mind!
Hats off to Marvel because they have been on a roll lately, churning out one fantastic movie after another for over a year, like Guardians of the Galaxy II, Thor Ragnarok, and Black Panther.
Is Avengers- Infinity War as good as Black Panther?
My husband asked me if Infinity War is as good as Black Panther.
My answer, an unequivocal YES! Avengers: Infinity War is JUST as good, if not better (in a different sense) than Black Panther.
Black Panther broke so many records, and while it is a Marvel movie, Black Panther represents so much more than just an action-packed comic book-based film.
But both movies possess an energy that propels you forward and makes you lose track of time, so much so that when the film’s credits roll, you are sitting there like you’ve been in a car crash, so don’t be surprised if you get an adrenaline rush.
Avengers: Infinity War Movie Review
This movie can be summed up in multiple ways. But in layman’s terms, Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War is action-packed, funny, nail-biting, and edge-of-your-seat exciting.
There are so many moving parts you will not have any trouble staying awake or “woke”. And this too, if you have a heartbeat, you will definitely get all kinds of emotional.
Yes, indeed, this Avenger franchise installment will have you all up in your feelings. You will leave the theater thinking, “Oh my gosh, what just happened?! “I can’t believe what just happened!” You’ll kinda panic, thinking, “How can I wait for Avengers 4 in 2019?!”
Yes, Marvel is about to rock your world, turn your socks inside out, and send you home, trying to grasp the magnitude of it all. You will be sitting in a daze; then, you will turn around and buy another ticket to watch Infinity War (again).
Avengers: Infinity War is the beginning of the culmination, bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe of the past ten years together.
The final plot shift starts to gel and make sense with A:IW and will conclude with whatever happens next in the proceeding film.
But, with this movie, there is a clever and nerve-wreaking unpredictability because every time an Avenger popped up on the screen, I had mega goosebumps and little chills.
I felt like a kid again as I sat there in total wonderment, at the mercy of the magic unfolding on the silver screen. There aren’t many films that can pull emotion out of you like this one so effortlessly.
I was completely taken in, and the pathetic thing about all of this is I knew my heartstrings were being played. This is how Marvel makes money off of us.
They make these awesome, jam-packed, brilliant movies that compel us to go back and see and experience the rush again and again and again. I see you, Marvel, and I raise you ten. Y’all going to have a sista’ in Marvel movie rehab.
Let me be clear- everything you THINK you know about this new Avengers movie- think again.
The Russo brothers have shocked us, setting this film up with someone “dying” right off the bat. I felt like someone literally pulled the rug from under my feet!
And they continue to shock, ignite, inspire, and move us, leaving our jaws wide open and our emotions all over the dang place.
Is Avengers Infinity War funny?
It’s funny. Hilarious in some scenes; the screenplay and writing are on point.
Will this movie have you laugh-crying? I doubt it, but you will be thoroughly entertained throughout the movie.
There are quite a few humorous tongue-in-cheek moments between Thor and Starlord. Starlord (Quill) struggles with how much his crew is infatuated and intimidated by Thor- his good looks, muscles on his muscles, basically, the whole God Of Thunder package.
I mean, I get it. Thor is drool-worthy and eye-candy material. (And I see you -Idris and Winston).
And a pleasant surprise, I think everybody will be fawning over teenage Groot.
He is so cute and endearing; he plays video games, tunes people out, talks back, and says things he shouldn’t. Yup, he’s a regular teenager!
Relationships in Avengers
Throughout Infinity War, we see some of our favorite Guardians and Avengers meet for the first time.
We see them pair off- some hitting it off well, like Thor and Rocket (affectionately named Rabbit by Thor). Dr. Strange and Iron Man don’t hit it off, at first, but after a few warm-ups and a trip into outer space, they start to feel each other out and start to see eye to eye.
And, of course, we saw Bucky (the White Wolf) appear at the end of Black Panther.
He teams up with Black Panther, Okoye, Shuri, M’Baku, and the rest of the Wakanda warriors. They are met with several other Avengers as they prepare to battle Thanos and his legion.
We also see the developing relationship between Vision and the Scarlet Witch. It will be interesting to see where their relationship goes after Avengers 4, if at all.
Who is the most powerful Avenger in Infinity War?
Out of all the Avengers present in Infinity War, Thor is numero uno, Dr. Strange is not to be discounted either, and Hulk is right up there too.
This is a powerful crew, and if not for this trio, the Avengers would be up a creek without a paddle.
But there is also a wildcard, with Starlord’s discovery that he is a Celestial, he is potentially a player to be reckoned with as he comes into his own.
One thing I didn’t care for in this movie, or in any of the Marvel movies, is how much MCU builds up Iron Man to be really strong and powerful.
With all of his gadgets, Tony Stark is a mean machine. And he’s smart.
But Shuri is WAY smarter than Stark. Marvel puts Stark on a pedestal, and honestly, the tin man needs to be knocked down a few pegs, but that’s just me.
In Infinity War, we see Thor flex his powers and show us WHY he is the god of Thunder (and my favorite Avenger).
Is Avengers Infinity War for kids?
If your kids saw Black Panther, Thor sequels, or other Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy movies, this installation is appropriate for kids to see (it is rated PG-13 after all).
There are no nude or sexual scenes in this movie. There are a few swear words; I also didn’t catch any inappropriate lewd sexual innuendos.
They’ll be okay if your kids can sit through a 2.5-hour movie (not counting the trailers).
Just have a lot of snacks, and try to limit the bathroom breaks. You don’t want them or you to miss anything!
Movies You Need To See Before Infinity War
Listen- you do not want to show up this weekend to see Infinity War and have NO CLUE about what’s going on!
Do you have to see every Marvel movie before seeing Infinity War?
No, but SEVERAL key Marvel movies will give you many important backstories to get the whole jest of what’s going on.
- Avengers– (the first Avengers movie sets the scene by bringing together Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, and the Hulk. ) They fight Loki (Thor’s brother), and it turns out, Loki was working for Thanos.
- Avengers: Age of Ultron– In this Avengers movie, we meet Wanda (Scarlet Witch) and Vision (who has an Infinity Stone). We learn more about the Infinity Stones as well.
- Guardians of the Galaxy I + II– We meet Gamora (as well as her sister Nebula) in the first Guardians movie and learn more about the Infinity Stones, the Collector, and Thanos. In the second Galaxy movie, we see Starlord discover his father is still alive and that he is a Celestial. A Celestial has a TON of power and is just as powerful as Thor. I think we are going to see Starlord (Quill) rise to the occasion in Avenger 4 with his celestial power.
- Captain America: Civil War– if you don’t have time to watch ALL the Captain American movies (which I highly recommend), Civil War is the one to watch. Not only do we meet Black Panther and Spiderman in this movie, but we also learn why the Avengers are divided at the beginning of Infinity War.
- Black Panther– If you haven’t seen this one yet, it comes out on digital and DVD next month. It’s one you want to have watched before seeing Infinity War. Some parts of the battle in Infinity War take place on Wakanda, and knowing why the Avengers are seeking refuge and help from T’Challa is important.
- Doctor Strange was one Marvel movie I didn’t care for, but after seeing Infinity War, I’ve found a new liking for Dr. Strange. He has a pretty important piece in Infinity War since he has an Infinity Stone that Thanos desperately wants. So, add watching Doctor Strange to your list of movies!
- Thor Ragnarok– This is another one I recommend watching. In Thor Ragnarok, we see Thor fight his sister and lose an eye and his hammer. You also see Thor and Loki continue to work out their brotherly relationship, which shows up at the beginning of Infinity War.
And that’s it. You can skip watching Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor (the first one), Hulk, and any Spiderman movies. I mean, if you have time to kill, then go for it. But 8-9 movies I listed above are Marvel movies you want to watch to make sure you have a complete understanding before seeing Infinity War.
What is Avengers: Infinity War about?
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos.
A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on anyone and everyone he encounters.
Everything the Avengers have fought for and struggled through has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain. – Marvel Studios

April 27th, 2018
And don’t forget:
- STAY until the end of the movie. All the way to the FINAL credits. There is one scene at the end that sets it up for Avengers 4, plus you will see “two important people” that have played roles throughout all of the Avengers movies.
- The movie starts off right away- be there on time; you don’t want to miss anything.
- This is a 2.5-hour movie, use the bathroom and get snacks ahead of time. You will not want to leave your seat. #aintnobodygottimeforthat
- DON’T SPOIL IT FOR ANYONE! Your friends and family will thank you for not spoiling the movie for you. Just like I haven’t spoiled the movie for you. Yeah, I could totally give away at least 10 spoilers, but that wouldn’t be cool. Don’t ruin that experience for anyone else. #youhaveuntilMonday because after Monday, call me the bean spiller!
Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War is EPIC. It’s not a think-piece like Black Panther, which had a lot of people researching colonizers and the African diaspora, furthering the conversation about meaningful things.
There’s none, but for all the comic book geeks, Marvel nerds, and those that love a good old, action-packed movie, you will enjoy Avengers: Infinity War.
And as much as I have loved seeing Black Panther break records, I see Infinity War shattering those records. Black Panther raised the bar, but maybe Avengers: Infinity War is the bar. It’s that good!
See it this weekend- in theaters on April 27th, 2018 (many theaters have screenings for April 26th).
