Apple season is approaching, so you will be looking for refreshing and delicious apple recipes to try out.
Add this apple milkshake to the top of the list. An ice cream lover’s dream come true.
Fresh apples help to give this milkshake a true apple pie flavor.
The caramel is buttery and has a rich flavor in each sip.
Ingredients Needed For Milkshake
Apples. You can use any variety of apples you would like for this easy apple milkshake recipe. A Honey Crisp or a Granny Smith (green apples) for a tarter flavor.
Butter. Use real butter; it will elevate the flavor tremendously.
Brown Sugar. You will get the rich caramel flavor from the brown sugar and butter pairing.
Cinnamon. Can you have pie without cinnamon? I think not.
Heavy Cream. This is going to give your sauce incredible richness.
Vanilla Ice Cream. Vanilla bean ice cream offers a delicious pairing to the caramel apple sauce. But reach for any brand you love, or make homemade ice cream.
Milk. Ice-cold milk is key!
Toppings. Crumbled graham crackers, caramel sauce, apples, whipped cream, etc.

Caramel Apple Milkshake Recipe
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced very small (organic apples will work as well)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon powder
- Pinch salt
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream (about a pint)
- 2 cups cold milk of your choice
- graham cracker crumbs, whipped cream, caramel sauce, and apple slices for garnish
First, make the caramel apple mixture:
- Place a saucepan on the stove over low-medium heat.
- Add the apples, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stirring frequently, cook until the brown sugar has dissolved and the apples are softened.
- Increase the heat to medium, add the heavy cream and vanilla extract to the pan, and cook, stirring constantly, until the liquid mixture resembles a thick caramel.
- Remove the pan from the heat and set it aside to cool completely.
To make the milkshakes:
- Add the ice cream, milk, and caramel apple mixture to the blender jar.
- Blend until just combined.
- Pour into two 12 oz. glasses. Garnish with desired toppings.
- Serve apple milkshake.
Pro-tips:
- Do not burn the caramel sauce! Be sure to watch & stir the entire time as it cooks. Otherwise, you may end up with bitter, gritty caramel. Yuck!
- Instead of adding the caramel apples to the blender along with the ice cream and milk, you can alternatively add them after blending the other ingredients if you want your milkshake to have more texture. Simply add the caramel apple sauce to the blender and pulse until the milkshake reaches your preferred texture.
- To make your presentation fancier (like in the photos) consider lining your milkshake glasses with a layer of graham cracker crumbs. Next, pour your milkshake into the prepared glass, then top with whipped cream. Then, generously drizzle caramel sauce over the whipped cream, sprinkle more graham cracker crumbs on top, and garnish with freshly sliced apple and a fun paper straw.
Can I Make This Dairy Free?
You are welcome to make this a dairy-free milkshake if you need it. Reach for dairy-free ice cream, milk, and swap the heavy cream with coconut or almond milk.
The sauce won’t be as creamy without the heavy cream, but a coconut cream can help add the richness you would get with the heavy cream.
Why Is My Caramel Sauce Too Thick?
If your caramel sauce is too thick once it cools, simply stir in more of the heavy cream.
Whisk continuously until it reaches the desired thickness you would like for your sauce.
High Powered Blender For Making Milkshakes
Use a high-powered blender when mixing up this milkshake.
You will find that it quickly whips up the perfect creamy milkshake without melting down the ice cream much at all.
Our personal preference is a Blendtec. We recommend investing in a high-powered blender for the kitchen for the best results!
How to Make A Malted Milkshake
Want to change this milkshake into a malted milkshake?
Add in 2-3 tablespoons of malted milk powder.
Mixing up the ingredients will give you a delicious malt flavor to the apple milkshake.
Do You Put Ice In Milkshakes
You will find some recipes that call for adding ice to the milkshake.
I find that it can easily water down your milkshake quickly.
I recommend not using ice. Using very cold milk helps to add an extra chilled drink, and no need for ice.
If you want to add ice, go right ahead and add 1/2 cup of ice.
This delicious apple milkshake recipe you’ll enjoy and want to make a few times during this season.
You could even tweak it and make an apple smoothie.
