Ingredients You Will Need
Sugar Cookie Dough. Head to your store’s refrigerator section and grab a sugar cookie dough tube. Or whip up your favorite homemade sugar cookie dough.
Butter. I recommend using butter, not margarine, as it will not mix up the way you want for the frosting. Feel free to use salted or unsalted butter.
Confectioners Sugar. This is also called powdered sugar. A finely ground sugar will give your homemade frosting a sweet, creamy flavor and texture.
Vanilla. This is going to add the perfect layer of flavor to the frosting. If you want to change it up, you could even use an almond extract in exchange.
Candy Corn Mix. I grabbed a bag of Autumn mix with candy corn and pumpkins. I found it gave a gorgeous topping for this festive dessert pizza.
Food Coloring. I did two layers of colors: yellow and orange. As you can see, it was to give a candy corn layer of color in the frosting. You are welcome to use all one color or do all 3 colors if you want.
How to make a Candy Corn Pizza for Halloween
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 13 minutes
Total Time: 28 minutes
Serving Size: 6
Ingredients:
- 1 tube sugar cookie dough
- ¾ cup butter, room temperature
- 3 cups confectioners sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Yellow and orange food coloring
- ½ cup autumn mix candy corn
Directions:
- Grease a 12-inch pizza pan with a non-stick spray. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Slice the cookie dough into twelve slices and press the dough in an even layer around the pan, leaving half-inch around the edge. Bake for 13-15 minutes until golden brown. Allow the cookie to cool completely.
- Add the butter to the bowl of your mixer and beat the butter on medium speed until the butter is light and fluffy. Turn the mixer down to low and add the sugar a little at a time. Once all the sugar is incorporated, add in the vanilla and the milk.
- Divide the frosting into three bowls. Color one batch of the frost with the orange food coloring and one batch with the yellow food coloring.
- Spread the yellow frosting around the outer two inches of the cookie, so you end up with a yellow ring. Then spread the orange frosting next to the yellow frosting, about two inches thick. Finally, fill the center circle with white frosting.
- Sprinkle the candy corn mix all over the pizza.
- Cut into slices and enjoy.
Storage of Candy Corn Pizza
So for this dessert, I recommend refrigerating what you don’t eat right away.
The buttercream frosting will melt and break down if left out for too long at room temperature.
Cover well and store in the refrigerator.
The pizza will store for 3-5 days.
Does Cookie Pizza Freeze?
Yes, go right ahead and freeze your pizza if you would like.
Just store it in a freezer-friendly container or sealable bag.
Then freeze for 2-3 months.
Thaw on the counter or in the fridge overnight.
Can I Use A Different Flavor of Cookie Crust
If you don’t want to use sugar cookie dough, go right ahead and reach for any cookie flavor.
Peanut butter or even chocolate chip would be a tasty alternative.
You will bake it up the same way.
You just want to spread and bake your cookie until fully cooked through.
Will The Cookie Pizza Stick To The Pan?
Spray with cooking spray or use a silicone baking mat under the cookie dough before you bake.
Then you won’t run the risk of your dessert pizza sticking.
You could also place parchment paper on the pan.
Also, baking sheets are fine if you don’t have a pizza pan.
What To Do With Extra Frosting?
If you happen to have extra frosting left over, save it back.
Store the frosting in the fridge, or toss it in the freezer.
Then freeze for up to three months.
Spread the frosting on graham crackers, dip in animal crackers, or use it to snack on later.
Pro-tip: You can also purchase store-bought vanilla frosting and use food coloring to save time.
How do you spread the frosting evenly?
I love to use an offset spatula like this one here.
As long as you keep a somewhat smooth circle shape, it will look good because you cover it with candy corn.
Now that you have this recipe for the Halloween season, it’s time to grab all your ingredients and get started.
