We are so excited to create an outdoor Halloween space this season! Get our tips below for an outdoor Halloween movie night.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of HERSHEY® for SheSpeaks. All opinions are 100% mine.
We’ve made it to the holiday season, which is the most wonderful time of the year.
It’s my favorite time of year, and I cannot wait to celebrate.
There are just so many ways you can celebrate and create new traditions.
Teaming up with HERSHEY® and Walmart, we’re going to share some fun new ways to celebrate the Halloween season where HERSHEY® candy is always on the menu.
Picking up bags of HERSHEY® candy from Walmart makes it easy to celebrate the season.
The bigger bags hold a variety of candy, which are a perfect size for treat bags and Halloween festivities.

Walmart is the one-stop shop to grab everything you need for the Halloween season.
Even this guy named Frank, who will sit and watch over The W this season, was picked up at Walmart.
This summer, we have been so thankful for our outdoor living space.
It has been home to many movie nights for our teens, entertaining a few friends and hosting birthday brunches.
As we move into Halloween, we will continue to use our outdoor space.
Our family tradition
We’re sharing how we put together an outdoor movie night.
Our tradition on Halloween night has always been to go out trick-or-treating, come home, and let the boys have some candy while watching a few Halloween movies.
Outdoor Halloween Movie Night Idea
This year we’ve created a Halloween-themed movie night outdoors.
Here’s how you can do the same thing!
Projector + Screen. You don’t need a ton of fancy equipment to have an outdoor movie night. Our first movie night was with a projector under $100, and a white sheet tacked to our fence.
Seating. Use your lawn chairs, pillows, and blankets and spread them all over the yard. Our steps are another seating option for guests.
Snacks. You can set up a concession stand with popcorn, drinks, and candy. We have Frank the Skeleton guarding the candy. For our concession stand, we decorated it with a Halloween theme.
We also added donuts, candy apples, regular apples, and an Apple Cider kid-friendly punch. It’s not Halloween without these essentials, am I right?
Another option is to create Halloween Movie Buckets. Instead of having everyone around the concession set up, create movie buckets.
You can even add themed items from the list of movies you plan to watch.
Here’s how I created these themed movie buckets:
- Halloween candy bucket (these are about $1)
- Halloween tissue paper for a festive look
- A handful of HERSHEY ® Halloween candy (I used the variety bags!)
- A bag of popcorn
- Apple
- Bottle of water
Optional: Halloween stickers, pencils, and other Halloween goodies.
Decorating your outdoor space for a Halloween movie night
There are many ways you can decorate your space for an outdoor movie night with a Halloween theme.
You could dress up your space with a scary theme or merge your Fall decor with Halloween decor.
I decided to add a few Halloween decor items to our backyard.
The W was recently changed from the summer look to a Fall theme, so adding a few things to create our Halloween look was easy.
I also wanted our look to be clean versus having a gory, scary look.
This is something to remember if you plan to have younger kids attend your outdoor movie night.
Here are things you can get to create a similar look:
- Mums (variety of sizes)
- A variety of pumpkins (Walmart has a great price on pumpkins, including the white ones).
- More mums + pumpkins (Seriously, adding pumpkins + mums creates a whole mood without doing anything else)
- Halloween decor (Check Walmart for Halloween decor)
If you want to keep your Halloween look to a minimum, only add a few items.
I added a light-up Trick or Treat sign, glass pumpkins that light up, and candles.
My Halloween look is complete, along with Frank and a few other Halloween items I purchased at the beginning of the season.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, check to see what you may have from previous seasons to use in your space.
Then you can head to Walmart to find tons of Halloween decor at reasonable prices (you can also shop online at Walmart.com).
Our favorite family-friendly Halloween movies
All these movies are available to purchase from Walmart.com
- Coraline
- ParaNorman
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- Hotel Transylvania
- Hocus Pocus
- Casper, the Friendly Ghost
- Little Shop of Horrors
- Ghostbusters
- Corpse Bride
A few tips to keep in mind for entertaining:
- When possible, set up several snack stations around the yard. This will help reduce guests congregating around one area.
- Space seats out across the yard.
- Label the movie snack containers with each guest(s) name on them.
- If the temps are on the colder side, encourage guest(s) to bring jackets and their blankets.
This holiday season will be great, and I’m so happy we have come up with this fun idea.
Having an outdoor Halloween movie night is a new way to celebrate the season for our family.
We’ll keep this tradition and can’t wait to share it with our friends!
Make sure you list everything you need to create your own Halloween outdoor movie night and stop by Walmart to pick up all your HERSHEY® bags of candy and decor items.
You can also shop online at Walmart.com and use Walmart’s Grocery Pickup to save time.
