Ralph Breaks the Internet Movie Review {Spoiler-Free review}
We’ve been waiting for this day for a while now. November 21st, 2018. Yes, it’s the day before Thanksgiving. I’ve been talking about this day for the last few weeks, and it’s finally here!
Ralph Breaks the Internet is finally in theaters! I got to screen the film a few weeks ago while I was in LA for the Ralph Breaks the Internet press junket! While there, I got to interview Pamela Ribon, the co-writer of this movie, and the genius behind the famous Princess scene which you will see in this movie!
NAVIGATING THE NET – In “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” video-game bad guy Ralph and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz venture to the internet for a replacement part for her game, Sugar Rush. The world wide web is expansive and exciting with an elaborate transportation system Ralph and Vanellope find themselves squeezing into en route to one of their first internet destinations. So what is Ralph Breaks the Internet about, and why you should see it!

First, everyone is going to be talking about the amazing things that happened with the Princesses in this movie, and you don’t want to miss out. Yeah, you might have seen the extended Princess scene video. But, so much more happens, and the only way you will know how the Princesses got there in the first place is to watch the movie. NUMBERS GAME – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Ralph and Vanellope find themselves in need of making some serious cash in order to purchase a replacement steering wheel for her game, Sugar Rush. Fortunately, a Netizen named Yesss—the head algorithm of a trend-making website called BuzzzTube—has a plan. Yesss, who has her finger on the internet’s fast-paced pulse, helps make Ralph the next viral video sensation. Featuring the voices of Taraji P. Henson as Yesss, and Flula Borg (YouTube personality DJ Flula) as her assistant Maybe, “Ralph Breaks the Internet” opens in theaters Nov. 21, 2018. ©2018 Disney. All Rights Reserved.
You get to meet new characters, like Yesss (Taraji P. Henson ) and Shank (Gal Gadot)
Yesss is the head algorithm of a trend-making website called BuzzzTube. If it’s hip, if it’s trendy, if it’s now, Yesss has seen it first and shared it with the world.
According to Ami Thompson, art director-characters, Yesss has a wardrobe everyone covets. “Yesss is on the cutting edge of fashion,” says Thompson. “Her look is a little futuristic. We gave her a very cool fiber-optic jacket, for example, and six unique hairstyles.” Yesss even has a tricked-out internet limousine. “It looks like a VIP section of a nightclub,” says Jon Krummel, modeling supervisor-environments. “It’s really plush and, of course, high tech.”
THE RACE IS ON – When video-game bad guy Ralph and Vanellope head to the internet in search of a replacement part for her game, Sugar Rush, they find themselves in the middle of Slaughter Race, an online racing game set in an apocalyptic world that’s populated by first-person players and gaming characters. As a racer herself, Vanellope is immediately drawn to this fierce and fun crew of racers who, unlike in other racing games, are much more multidimensional than at first glance. Among the core team of game characters in Slaughter Race are Felony (voice of Ali Wong), Butcher Boy (voice of Timothy Simons), Shank (voice of Gal Gadot), Little Debbie (voice of Glozell Green) and Pyro (voice of Hamish Blake). “Ralph Breaks the Internet” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 21, 2018. ©2018 Disney. Shank is a tough and talented driver in an intense online racing game called Slaughter Race—a gritty, no-holds-barred street-racing contest with dangerous obstacles at every 7 turn. “She is the coolest character in this world of Slaughter Race,” says director Rich Moore. “Shank’s lived a lot, she’s seen a lot, yet she’s got nothing but kindness in her heart— that’s the duality of that character.”
And of course, we get to spend some time with Ralph and Vanellope. If you’ve been dying to know what happened after Wreck-It Ralph, the film picks up shortly after the first one.
INTO THE INTERNET – In “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2,” Vanellope von Schweetz and Wreck-It Ralph leave the arcade world behind to explore the uncharted and thrilling world of the internet. In this image, Vanellope and Ralph have a breathtaking view of the world wide web, a seemingly never-ending metropolis filled with websites, apps and social media networks. On a quest to save Vanellope’s game, how will these two misfits ever succeed in this vast new world? Featuring the voices of Sarah Silverman as Vanellope and John C. But what this movie is really about
Besides all of the fun things, comedic moments, and the Disney Princesses, this movie is really about Ralph and Vanellop’s relationship. The theme is simple: friendship.
During this movie, their friendship is tested. Ralph wants things to stay the same and doesn’t understand why Vanellope wants to try new adventures. He doesn’t get why she is not happy with their current status.
We see them go back and forth on debating her leaving and wanting to try new things. Will their friendship survive these changes? And will their relationship allow for new friends to come in their lives?
“Ralph is in love with the life that he has,” adds director Phil Johnston. “But Vanellope is ready for a change—she wants to spread her wings a little. That creates conflict within their friendship, which becomes the heart of the story.”
“I love that the film is about change,” says producer Clark Spencer. “Two best friends are about to realize that the world won’t always be the same. The internet is the perfect setting, really, because it’s all about change—things change by the second.”
The message Pamela Ribon wanted to be portrayed in this film is this, “This scene is about letting Vanellope know she is something and that she has a lot to offer- and that she should own it and be proud of who she is. Your best friend will be there for you, no matter what kind of day you are having.”
You will have to see the movie to see if their friendship will survive these changes!
“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. Is Ralph Breaks the Internet kid-friendly?
Ralph Breaks the Internet is rated PG-13, and kid-friendly. There was no type of swearing or vulgar language. There is a part towards the end of the movie where Ralph turns into a really big and mean Ralph (small spoiler). Other bloggers felt that some of their younger kids might not like that part of the movie.
Is Ralph Breaks the Internet for teens?
My boys plan to see it this weekend, so I will have to share an update on what they thought of Disney’s latest movie.
Overall, Ralph Breaks the Internet is a fun movie for the whole family to see. It’s funny but shares a great message about friendship.
And as we sit down tomorrow to give thanks for our food and family, we’re also giving thanks for all of our friends.
