Elegant Outside Picnic Party Idea {Boho Inspired Party for Coachella}
It’s no secret we love to entertain, especially during the summer months. I try to come up with creative ways to throw a party on our patio and backyard. Several years ago, I hosted a Mom’s Night Out party and came up with an elegant theme. It was a huge hit!
I’ve toyed with the idea of putting together a feing Shui type of vibe party. On a recent trip to World Market, I discovered these beautiful elephant plates, and an idea started to form! What if I could come up with a colorful outdoor picnic idea?
This year I’m working on mixing things up. Instead of always have the same number of plates the identical table settings, I’m doing a little of this and a little of that.
I decided to buy two of each Elephant design, as well as a variety of cloth napkins.
- Turquoise Nomad Elephant Plates (2)
- White Nomad Elephant Plates (2)
- Light Green Nomad Elephant Plates (2)
A few years ago, we created an outdoor dining room table out of wood pallets. We also created an outdoor bar patio out of wood pallets. We recently took them both down due to wear and tear.
When we remodeled our kitchen, we ended up with some extra material from our countertops.
We brought the countertop outside to use as a table, mounting it on two turquoise planting pots. The plan was to keep the tablescape idea simple for a clean feel with positive energy. I added pillows around the table for guests to be able to sit. Guests could also sit right on the carpet.
I laid down a linen charger for each table setting, followed by a white dinner plate, and added an elephant plate on top. I also did something a little different with the cloth napkins. I folded them into a triangle and tucked them under the white dinner plates. Kinda funky, right?
To the right of each place setting, I set a diamond dessert glass. We bought these glasses last year at Home Goods, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I snagged the table runner at World Market. When I saw it, along with the napkins, I knew they would match the elephants perfectly.
And yup, they did!
I had a lot of dead space towards the end of the table. If this happens to you, find pieces around your house that will work with whatever type of design you’re putting together.
I picked up the sunflowers at my grocery store and popped them into a mason jar filled with water.
The differently designed jars also came from Home Goods, as well as the beautiful lantern. I found it in the clearance aisle for $12 bucks! A few of the glass panes were missing. I popped them out, and boom, it’s functional!
I added a few candles to help complete the mood, as well as the paper honeycomb balls.
I was able to pull this idea together in no time. Usually, I like to start my ideas off around a theme. The table runner, plates, or centerpiece are my inspiration. I may see a set of plates (like those elephant plates) or a centerpiece and start planning the design around that one (or few) items.
I placed the gold eating utensils into a blue mason jar and some fun pink straws!
I didn’t want this picnic party idea to have a picnic feel. I wanted it to have the idea of having a picnic, but to have a classy spin on it! I’m confident I pulled it off!
This is such a fun party idea. While I was putting it together, we had the music going, and of course, my youngest had to get his dance on. All the colors and the simplicity of this idea gave it a fun vibe! So don’t be afraid to try something new this summer.
