5 Ways To Love Your New Puppy With Health + Happiness
Our family got a surprise this summer; we got a new puppy! And much like the joy, a newborn baby can bring, a new puppy can have a similar effect. Some may argue that having a new puppy in the home is just as challenging as caring for a new baby. And if you have raised a dog from puppy to adulthood there are certainly lots of similarities. For example, getting your new puppy on your schedule can be challenging. I mean, who hasn’t lost sleep comforting a lonely and needy puppy in the wee hours of the night? Been there, done that! Ensuring your new dog is safe, comfortable, and adjusting well to their new home can be a long process. Then there are health concerns. The endless trips to the vet, which include a series of immunization shots and frequent examinations checking for potential problems, all of this to reassure new pet owners that their new fur baby is in tip-top shape. Happy dogs are healthy dogs.
The biggest concern for new puppy parents is their pet’s nutrition, and we believe good nutrition is the bedrock of loving your pet. Because proper nutrition ties it all together! Here are a few things new pups need in their ideal and loving home environment:
Clean + Puppy-Proof. No one wants to live in an unclean home, and your new puppy is not the exception. Make sure the home is free of dirt, debris, mildew, and potentially harmful items laying around or within easy access that can hurt your dog. Your home should be puppy-proof, which means not only is it clean but that you have removed small items your puppy could swallow or choke on (including electrical cords). Oh, and if you love your shoes, place them inside of closets because leaving them out maybe too much of a temptation for new puppies.
Comfortable. Make sure your new puppy is comfortable; this can mean anything from keeping them cool or warm depending on the time of year or cracking a car window to prevent heat stress.
- Establishing a specific area for your dog to sleep, eat, or play.
- If you kennel your dog make sure it is kept clean, debris-free, and is big enough to accommodate their particular size with large breed pups their size will change.
- If you are providing bedding for your dog make sure it is cozy, comfortable, and clean. And be sure to wash the bedding periodically. Vacuum up loose hair, check under pillows, and in any areas where stuff can hide.
- Also, make sure your puppy is comfortable with you. Spend time on the floor with them, playing and talking to them. Dogs crave attention, especially from hugs, brushing their fur, and belly rubs.
Exercise. A consistent exercise regimen for dogs is essential in maintaining proper weight, helps mental acuity, and burns up extra energy. Plus, dogs like to have fun. Dog parks are a great way for dogs to socialize and get lots of time to run around and be what they are, dogs.
Training. Every dog needs some degree of training because you can’t expect your new puppy to “just know” what or what not to do. Take the time to learn basic dog training by reading books, watching dog training videos online, or signing your dog up for an obedience class. Often dog owners lack the patience or know-how to train their dog on their own and seeking out a certified trainer can make the whole process stress-free for you and your dog.
Good dog food is LOVE! What should I feed my new puppy? It is no easy task for selecting food from so many choices; it can be quite stressful. For us, looking for something grain-free was a priority. We also had a few other concerns as well, like the quality and selection of the ingredients. At the end of the day, it boils down to loving your pet to ensure a lively, active, and long-living life. We show our pooches love in how well we care for them and that love comes in many forms.
Nature’s Recipe produces purposeful dog food for dogs leading a purposeful life!
Having a healthy diet is essential for every pup and dog so that they can stay active, healthy, and happy. Chance, our Chocolate Labradoodle is one active pup, from the moment he’s out of his kennel in the morning, throughout the day, and until he tucked in at night, he is here, there, and everywhere. And if you know Labradoodles, this is a breed with a lot of energy! For us, it means frequent exercises in the form of long walks or fetching his favorite toys. Chance also loves to play around with his Boston Terrier older brother, Goku.
Good nutrition is the anchor that fuels a growing dog’s every need.

Natures Recipe is actually pretty good. It’s also one of the food that we give to our cockers as well and they love it.

Yes, it is. And the puppy actually likes it better than the other brand we were giving him.
