Air Fryer Ham with Honey Balsamic

Easter is a few days away, and if you’re looking for a new way to make your Easter ham, get out the air fryer.

This air fryer honey balsamic ham will always provide tons of praise as it disappears from everyone getting seconds.

how to make a ham in the air fryer

Ingredients You Will Need To Make A Ham In The Air Fryer

Spiral Ham. You can buy a spiral ham that has a bone-in. Make sure that whatever size of ham you get fits into the air fryer. Some larger hams will not fit into an air fryer. Depending on brand and model, the size will vary as to what fits.

Dijon Mustard. Any spicy mustard works for this. We love Dijon but feel free to use what you have on hand. This adds a nice vinegary kick to the ham.

Light Brown Sugar and Honey. There is something to a sweet ham that leaves you needing one more slice! The two ingredients give a nice sweetness to the ham.

Balsamic Vinegar. I used a good amount as it creates such a delicious flavor to the ham when you pair it with the sweet tangy from the mustard.

Apple Juice.  The apple juice will add sweetness and be a great way to keep your ham moist and not dry out the ham.

Air Fryer Ham Recipe

Serves: 8-10

Prep Time: 8 Minutes

Cook Time: 40-45 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6-7 lb Fully Cooked Bone-In Spiral Ham
  • 4 oz. Dijon Mustard
  • ½ Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • ½ Cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • 5 oz. Apple Juice

putting ham in the air fryer

Directions on making ham in the air fryer:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 320 degrees.
  2. Remove ham from the package. Place ham in the base pan or dish. If you are using the basket with holes, you will probably want to line it with a piece of foil to catch the juices.
  3. Use a spatula to fully coat the top of the ham with the Dijon mustard.
  4. Next, rub it with the brown sugar.
  5. Pour the honey over the top. Add the balsamic vinegar and the apple juice, pouring it right over the top of the ham as well.
  6. Turn the ham so it fits in the pan flat, and the air fryer lid will close comfortably without touching the ham.
  7. Cook it for about 40-45  minutes. Check the temperature of the ham with a meat thermometer.
  8. Ham should reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees when fully cooked up to temp.
  9. Remove from the air fryer & serve.

Do I use the flavor packet in the spiral ham?

Some spiral hams come with a sauce packet to flavor the ham. If you happen to get one of those hams, toss it out as you will be making your own.

Is a spiral ham pre-cooked?

Yes, you will find that spiral hams have been fully cooked. You will still want to cook your ham for the time as directed as it flavors the ham and heats it fully, making it safe to consume.

How many people do a 6 pounds of ham serve?

For a 6-7 pound ham, you can expect that this recipe will serve 8-10 guests. Feel free to make multiple hams to feed a larger crowd. Or, if you own an air fryer that can hold a larger ham, feel free to do so.

What internal temperature does ham need to be when fully cooked?

You will need to use a meat thermometer and ensure the ham reads 145 degrees F. Make sure that you do not touch the bone, or it will give a higher temperature reading.

Storing Ham

You can store your ham in the fridge for 3-5 days. Then you can freeze the ham for 2-3 months or vacuum seal it for longer life. Then thaw the frozen ham in the fridge overnight and reheat as you would like.

Tips For Success

Ham comes in so many different shapes and sizes. Make sure whatever size ham you buy will fit in your air fryer.

This ham was almost 7  pounds, and instead of using the basket with holes in it, I used the solid base pan.

I often do that with meats because it keeps them juicier, and there’s less chance of it getting dried out. The base pan is a lot bigger and can accommodate a larger ham.

This model is the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Air Fryer. It has a drop-in basket that’s about 4 quarts, so if the ham is smaller, it could fit directly in the basket, but it can be put directly into the base pan if it’s larger.

The base pan is 6 quarts.

When the ham was done, I removed it from the air fryer. I transferred it to a large serving plate for the table, as you’ll see in the pictures.

Whether you whip up this ham for dinner for the family during the week or holiday feast will save you time and come out juicy and delicious.
